Main Deck (60 cards)

Sideboard (15 cards)

Sorceries (9)

Artifacts (3)

Enchantments (3)

Submit a list of cards below to bulk import them all into your sideboard. Post one card per line using a format like "4x Birds of Paradise" or "1 Blaze", you can even enter just the card name by itself like "Wrath of God" for single cards.

Deck Description

So how do you like your opponent? Original or extra crispy?

A modern burn deck that tries to outrace other fast aggro decks like zoo, UR delver, and artifact affinity.

How to Play

The creatures all speak for themselves. 1-drop hasty creatures provide early pressure (in the case of vexing devil, it's a faster tarmogoyf or a 4-damage lightning bolt).

The rest of the spells are pretty much burn spells. Try to use Flames of the Blood Hand and Skullcrack on your opponent's turn so they cannot gain life.

Browbeat is good for card draw if they are low on life cause you can replenish your hand. If not, you have Past in Flames to utilize your graveyard (or if you happen to get mana-flooded, you can use all of that extra mana to cast more graveyard burn).

Don't worry about burning their creatures. This is a race. Do direct damage to them...unless they have Leyline of Sanctity. Then go ahead and burn their creatures, pumping up Monastery Swiftspear with Prowess in the meantime.

Finally, be careful with Hidetsugu's Second Rite, as you must time it perfectly (either at your opponent's end step, or during your turn if they are tapped out).

The sideboard cards are there only for artifact hate or to slow them down, since red has no enchantment hate.

Deck discussion for Original? Or extra crispy?

So what do you guys think? Sorry if it's a little pricey, but this is the one of the few times that shock and fetch lands DON'T cost more than the nonland cards ha! Against all of the metas I've been seeing at channel fireball modern tournaments, I figured this can outrace most of them. Advice is greatly appreciated! =)

Heheheh. Okay, I'll be sure to crisp it up. I wonder how you like your steak. Burnt to a crisp or bloody as hell...

+1! Seems like a fast, aggro deck. But like you said, if they have Leyline of Sanctity, you'll have to rely on your creatures only. Plus, if they have Engineered Explosives for 1 or Chalice of the Void for 1, that would shut down your deck. Then again, those are usually sideboard cards. Plus they'd have to draw them. Still though, I like the low mana curve and super burn!!

Hey thanks! Yes, Engineered Explosives and Void would hurt me quite a bit. That's why I have artifact removal in the sideboard.

Even though it does less damage, you should toss in shock. Burn tends to be all about instants over sorceries. Also, as great as he looks and is, vexing devil is only good if your opponents are getting into single digit life totals. Consider having young Pyromancer, since he works so well with burn and gives aggro decks a rough time

Thanks for the tips! Yeah, I realized 4 of vexing devils isn't that good after you mentioned about their life total. And you're right. Young pyromancer would be great at pumping out free elementals. Shoot. Now I wonder if I should combo the pyromancer with purphorous. hmmmm....

Yeah it's a good combo, but the tokens are better as chumps really. Save the space and just stick with damage based cards over Purphoros

I would also take out some of the creatures since you're about burn. goblin guide is early pressure but only turns into a blocker when they get their creatures out. how about some shard volley and eidolon of the great revel? he'll hurt you, but you'll kill them much faster. also consider searing blood since it will both kill their creatures and do damage at the same time (plus you don't care about devotion since you are mono-red).

Wow thanks for all of the suggestions. I'll definitely have to consider searing blood as well as searing blaze since it'll do 1 extra damage to the creature. Eidolon huh? Sounds risky, but I can see how it would hurt them faster...

Toasty!

Got back into Magic last year (after almost 10 years of not playing) after my friend quit playing. I had not seen him in years. He shows up, and gives me his entire collection. Thousands of cards. Said if he kept them he knew he would just keep buying more. Anyways, the pride of his collection was a Red Goblin deck. He beat me down with it (again, had not played in around 10 years). And gave me the deck as well. It has 3 Goblin Guides. They were about 5 bucks then. I almost traded them for other cards. Now they are very pricey.

I like the assortment of damage amounts, helping you to be able to use the Second Rite.
Nice.

Thanks Jessie! I'm glad you didn't get rid of the Goblin Guides. They're 20 bucks now heheheheh!

I could suggest Satyr Firedancer.
It is an effective and powerful card in any burn deck. It is also hilarious with those Lava Spikes...

Otherwise, I could just say that this is what a good burn deck looks like. Thumbs up.

Thanks for the tip! Yeah, Satyr Firedancer would really wipe their creatures away. Too bad you and Jessie can only have 2 hot decks at a time. But it's so funny that you EACH have 1 60 and 1 EDH LOL

Ugh, my EDH deck...is lame.
I actually hated that it was put on the Hot Page.
Not to take away from the honor and the effort other people put forth to make it to the Hot Page...it's just that the deck did not deserve it.
I agree, the Firedancer would be a beast with the 32 cards that activate it in this deck.

It's okay that it made it to the hot page. I think the main reason people put decks on here is so that they can get advice. So if it's on the hot page, you'll end up getting lots of tips and help ;-)

Sometimes they end up there because if how the deck is built or a combo in it. I know my gilder bairn deck dominated the hot page for two months just because of the combo the deck was based around. The hot page is more of a shout out to decks that are "trending" for lack of a better description. They are usually there until something new takes its place. Now I'm not saying advice won't get a deck up there, just that it's fickle popularity really. But it still rocks when you see your name up there for everyone else to see :)

I remember when poet, demonking and I dominated the front page. It used to be a popularity contest. Anyone could put their deck on the front page if they knew how.

Popularity contest huh? Well, I admit I got 2 decks on the hot page once, but no one really suggested any changes or tweaks or anything. And if a deck is hot and a lot of people like it, it already sort of suggests it doesn't need any more fine tuning. Hmmm. A catch-22 situation...
