Deck Description

This is basically the Orzhov version of my mono-black, modern-legal deck:
http://www.mtgvault.com/tleung84633/decks/i-am-deathdestroyer-of-worlds/

Unfortunately, this deck is even more expensive =(
This deck is really only aimed at those who want to spend more money than the already-expensive mono-black deck in the link above.

However, it still plays the same way:
This deck still breaks up your opponent's combos while forcing them to sacrifice their creatures and discard cards so they cannot attack, play spells, or pretty much do anything. You will also be sacrificing creatures and discarding cards but you have graveyard play, so you won't care.

Meanwhile, your creatures and spells don't mind hitting the graveyard cause they'll rise from the dead to fight again!

How to Play

Let's go over smallpox first. 1) Lose 1 life (big deal, they lose 1 life too), 2) Sac a creature (Bloodghast, Gravecrawler, and Geralf's Messenger don't mind hitting the graveyard cause they come back), 3) Sac a land (Flagstones of Trokair replaces itself with a Godless Shrine), 4) Discard a card (Bloodghast, Gravecrawler, and Lingering Souls can be played from the graveyard), or you can discard a land card if you are mana-flooded (or a thoughtseize or inquisition if they aren't needed at the time).

Thoughtseize, Inquisition of Kozilek, and Tidehollow Sculler allow you analyze their hand and discard their cards to break up their combos.

Liliana is great for forcing everyone discard a card (no big deal for you - see the first paragraph about smallpox) and for sacrificing a creature. Don't forget you can sac your own Geralf's Messenger since he has undying (comes back with a +1/+1) and will do 2 damage right away. As for Sorin, I usually -2 right away because you get an emblem instantly.

Tectonic Edge is there to slow down their mana - I know this deck's devotion to black is high, but that's why you have Urborg (makes Tec Edge and Flagstones swamps).

And of course, Phyrexian Obliterator is there cause he's a BEAST. The flavor text captures it all.

I didn't list how to play EVERYTHING - you'll just have to play and learn. Case in point? If you have 2 Flagstones of Trokair in hand, play both. Once the second comes out, the first will die because it's a legendary land, but it'll replace itself with a godless shrine.

Deck discussion for He's Back! Destroyer of Worlds

Hello everyone! I changed my mono-black deck into this Orzhov deck to play at Channel Fireball Modern Tournaments. Yeah, I know it costs quite a bit =(
But let me know whatcha guys think! See the Deck Description and How to Play for more info. Thanks in advance for any comments or tips! =)

As you may know, I'm not good at high budget, but I could suggest sideboard Mortify to handle annoying creatures and/or enchantments.

Well, I figured you are hands-down the expert in budget decks so you know your cards left and right. Mortify can be good, especially since there is no drawback (such as Path to Exile, which gives them a free land). Plus, I suppose I could use mortify on my own geralf's messenger (after he attacks) to deal an additional 2 damage (I've noticed that most opponents continue to take geralf's messenger's damage rather than kill him and have him come back, even stronger, AND deal an extra 2 damage). Using Mortify on my own creature could be a game-ender depending on life totals heheh. Thanks!

Very nice. I can see how a turn 2 smallpox using urborg and flagstones and discarding bloodghast or lingering souls would slow them WAYYYYYYY down. Crazy combo there.

You have a lot of removal. I might consider swapping out 1 thoughtseize for another liliana if you can afford it. thoughtseizes are almost useless late game, especially if liliana is forcing them to discard.

Thanks! I saw your comment on the esper version of this. Yeah, that version was getting destroyed at channel fireball modern tournaments. I feel this is much more consistent. Sure, not as much card draw without the charm and treasure cruise, but it has so much more removal. ;)
