Deck Description

I'm trying to create the most powerfull, flexible mono black deck I can. (By flexible I mean being able to be played against many types of decks without changing too much)

Deck discussion for Mono Black

For flexibility, I'd suggest you add more removal; Geth's Verdict should do nicely paired with GftT (I know you can kick the Gatekeeper, but the instant speed and 'target player' of the Verdict really helps at times). Then, you definitely need some draw. MBC plays pretty quickly and its biggest issue if the likelihood that you're standing around with nothing in hand; Sign of Blood and Tezzeret's Gambit will help remedy this.

Beyond that, Massacre Wurm is a little overpriced to play in this build, you don't want to have him in an opening hand staring at you for 6 turns. Even adding in two more Duress's in place of the two Wurms would be advantageous; or even Gitaxian Probe just for the spy and draw.

I have an older MBC deck that I use in casual. There are similarities between the two, but mine isn't Standard. Still, there may be some ideas you could pull from it as you're probably more familiar with the more recent sets than I am. If you get a chance, take a look, I'd appreciate any comments you can offer; here's the deck list: http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=86456

Actually, upon further review, I'm not really convinced that the Vengeful Pharaoh is needed here. With a CC of 5, he's the second most expensive play in the build (in addition to Lilliana). With added removal, and possibly adding in one more Lilliana, you should be dealing with a board that is pretty clear of creatures to where the Pharaoh's ability isn't needed. Then, popping Lilliana's tutor ability will become your bread and butter to ensure card quality and threat response. Just an added thought.

Hope these ideas help!

Thanks for the comments Rustedbucket. I decided to use Gatekeeper over geth's verdict just for the fact that for 1 more mana, I have a 2/2 creature on the board. Geth's is cheaper so I'll probably have to play around with that a bit. I definitely need some draw though. I am trying to keep it standard so sign in blood wouldn't work. Tezzeret's Gambit could be a possibility. I wonder if there are any black standard draw cards I have passed up? Massacre Wurm would be nice but you're right it is a little overpriced, I'll have to decide what may be replacing them. I think I agree with you about the Vengeful Pharoah too. With enough CC I shouldn't really need him. Thanks again!
