here i am. a grixis control deck was in my mind since the reprint of Nicol Bolas in M13....even if I am aware it is highly unplayable :) but magic is fun too, or not? therefore, I would make some changes, throwing in: - Sphere of the suns (at least 3) - Dissipate instead of cancel - Negate or essence scatter (this has to be done in accordance with your local metagame) - Ponder - you really need it - at least in 4 copies - Mutilate / Black Sun's Zenith instead of Cower in Fear - Tribute to hunger instead of barted in blood (more flexible as the game goes on) - Red Sun's Zenith - Nicol Bolas as well :) I would remove, instead: - Gem of Becoming - Sorin's Vengeance - Thought Scour - Barter in Blood - Cower in Fear - Volcanic Geyser I think you should build deck capable of controlling the game (mass removing creature) in the first 4-5 rounds and then protect your high costs creatures. This is just my 2 cents ;)
thanks a lot for your comment! I am not so sure on its solidity but I am going to play it in the next days and then I will, probably, improve it. The alchemist refuge is something that leaves me sceptical, it requires 3 mana (2basic + itself) to be activated. However I will take into account your idea and I will swap one. gonna look at your deck in a while!
Ok, now it is more clear the objective :-) I would, then insert more "first or second" drop creatures to enter in combo with captivating vampire. Moreover I would suggest 4 bloodline keeper since they can generate tokens and they can pump other vampires. Within this deck idea I would get rid off the Bloodlord, which, in my opinion, doesn't fit very much. You could, then, add some act of treason.
I prepared a standard compliant RB vampire deck and I would like to have your take on it. In order to help you I would like to ask you a couple of questions: 1) are you going to keep it standard or modern or whatever format? 2) do you want a control-oriented deck or an aggro one? 3) do you want to focus more on bloodthirst or on gaining control of opponent creatures or just relying on your strength?
I was planning to remove from the deck the Screeching Bats as suggested by Pockets11 and I was wondering if it was better to include volt charges, tezzeret's gambits or to increment the number of already present spells or creatures. Thanks for your take, I will think about it.
I would get rid of the Royal and the Balefire. Instead I would put in more removal spells (for the royal) and vampires (for the balefire). I built a standard vampire deck as well: http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=24098 Looking forward to receive your feedback ;-)
I agree with you, unluckily Nighthawk is no more in standard. I used to play it until friday...then I had to rotate and re-invent the deck.
that could be an option. I could remove a shock for an additional dragonskull summit. I will keep it into account at the next hand draw ;-) thanks
I am trying to build a competitive deck around Glissa as well so I can list here a few lacks I identified in your deck: - you are missing removal for artifacts or enchantments, therefore I would add 2 to 3 Naturalize. - I would substitute Liliana with bonehoard - I would change the 4 Quest for the graveloard with 2 Life's Finale - I would throw in 2 Sword of feat and famine - you can also take into account the Thran Golem however, this is just an idea...my idea, so feel free to take it or not into account ;-)
really a nice deck. I will give it a try for sure and maybe I will come with a solution which is in the middle between your deck and mine (http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=112720) your comment will be very appreciated.
nice deck, however you are not covered against flying creatures. you could consider swapping the Memnites with Ornitophters or with Goblin Baloon Brigades. I also made an attempt to build a Standard Goblin deck (http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=112720) and I will really appreciate your comments, if you can manage to find 2 minutes to spend reviewing it.
now it's all more clear ;-) thanks for the explanation!
just my two cents, even if I am no expert in type 1.5 or 1 plays or decks: I would remove the sharpshooters and introduce the raging goblin (they have haste, at least) I would but in a playset of dragons to be played in combo with sneak attack. I would put in seething songs to speed up the deck I would prefer the Bushwacker instead of the tunneler
thanks a lot for the comments! and yes, it is there just for trample and 'cause it is one mana only to cast! moreover with claws of valakut it becomes a 4/4 with trample at the third turn!
Fling...I forgot it! thanks very much for highlighting!
thanks for the reply. Up to date it is a R only deck. I have to update the card list :-) BTW it is quite slow to start and if you are playing against a huge-massive-slow deck you are going to lose the battle. Anyway, the deck is almost costless to me, since I already all the needed cards :-) I am quite curious about your deck, I'm gonna check your profile.
thanks deucetrik that makes sense...what do you think about going for a mono red? iron myrs instead of llanowars, palladium myrs instead of archdruids and pyretic ritual instead of birds of paradise?
that's great! I did not think about using Splinter Twin but I uses only the two galvanizers myr to untap the propagators and create a nice swarm :-)
I did something similar in the near past, so here are my comments: - I would replace the 4 Kabira crossroads with 4 plains or 4 terramorph to cycle through the deck - I would replace 4 Conquerors pledge with 2 Nomad's Assembly (they have rebound) - increase the number of stoneforge to 3 then it is up to you if you want to remove the armored ascension and increase the number of artifacts. if you want to give a look at my deck here is the link: http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=94294
