Deck Description

Heavily inspired by a recent 5-0 and my unhealthy obsession with Tortured Existence decks.

Essentially, with time, the Dead Dog Golgari Madness Tempo decks became Tortured Existence decks that relied on Grave Scrabbler + TE to generate more card advantage than anything else in the format was capable of. The faster the format became, the harder it was to make TE viable, and cutting Scrabblers without substituting a similar card advantage hammer had your endgame being a guaranteed draw of the best creature currently in your graveyard (via dredge & TE) which is dogshit when the opponent is getting 3 cards a turn with Experimental Synthesizer bounces.

Anyway, this build uses Shipwreck Sifters as a threat that comes down early, blocks well, and furthers our gameplan. It is crucial that your threats fulfill all these roles when you're playing a 2015 deck in 2025. Dihada's Ploy and Footlight Fiend then bring back the Eidolons, providing card advantage and Sifer counters.

In general, most of the cards in the deck perform multiple roles.
Lampad of Death's Vigil acts as a sacrifice outlet while gaining us life and being capable of blocking, unlike Carrion Feeder, a card I will forever maintain does not belong in 95% of TE builds.
Mire Triton is offensively statted yet extremely defensively capable while deepening our graveyard.
Troll of Khazad-dûm does fucking everything and is an integral part of many play patterns.

How to Play

When I used to play TE decks in paper I wrote a whole ass primer on the deck after which I realized that describing this deck and its play patterns is futile unless done in a detailed, exhaustive manner that barely any TE enjoys, let alone average Pauper players, would deign to read.

To that end the goal is simply to not die, because you will generally have inevitability in all matchups. The trouble starts when you have to be the aggressor, in which case you are probably going to lose. The main appeal of the deck is that extremely small decisions to the tune of wasting 1 mana, or failing to go all in on a certain silver bullet, on turn 5 as opposed to turn6, or on MTGO wasting 30 seconds, can decide the outcome of a match.

Yes, we do need Ancient Grudge, No, we cannot beat Affinity with only 4 Vandals.
No, you should not play this, there is too much incidental Graveyard and Enchantment hate and too many decks that will tempo you out.
NOTE: One thing you may want to do is go heavier on Mire Triton, this way you will have a much better Game 1 against Terror strategies.
