Deck Description

The non-auramancer version http://www.mtgvault.com/theswarmer/decks/pauper-orzhov-pestilence-2/

Ever since the Monarch mechanic was introduced to Pauper everyone became excited because of the possibilities it opened up. Midrnage beating Tortured Existence? Tortured Existence Dredging 2 Brownscales a turn? MBC being able to beat dimir teachings?

And for some, the main source of them yelling "yaaay" was the possible resurgence of Pestilence centered midrange decks. And here we are. With a deck packing loads of value and the means to beat everything.

Besides just good cards with synergy - which is basically the recipe for a good deck in this format - you also get the added bonus of a toolbox, allowing you to have a chance against everything in the format.

Font of Return can overpower control so long as you can get an Auramancer back with it.

Gift of Orzhova makes sure your Pestilence does not kill you, and that in a race you shall remain ahead, especially when given to a Guardian of the Guildpact.

Seal of Doom and Weight of Conscience with Auramancers provide a repeatable source of removal.

How to Play

The deck is a midrange one, its main synergy being that of Enchantments and its main advantage over the alternatives being the ability to have a toolbox of useful silver bullets and the ability to have Auramancer continuously give you access to these even after Heliod's Pilgrim fetched them up and they did their job.

With efficient early game pressence in the form of creatures as well as cheap removal. Whatever your opponent is doing in the early turns - you can compete. Then turn 4 rolls around and a world of powerful options is presented.

Pestilence serves as a repeatable boardwipe and brings the news of Elves players conceding. Coupled with Guardian of the Guildpact it provides a boardclear that leaves only 1 creature alive - your creatre.

Guardian of the Guildpact single handedly turns many games in your favor, a plethora of aggro decks can't get through him no matter what they do. And MBC and other control decks need to clear your board and edict you in order to get rid of him.

Palace Sentinels made the deck a thing. Being a monarch in a deck that has spectacular removal, value and sustainability is an asset so valuable that I think running 3 is a must.

Deck discussion for Pauper Orzhov Pestilence

So how do you play it, well how do you win?

Depending on what you are up against. If you are playing a deck that is faster than you, that you know you can go over the top of, then you play not to lose, until you turn the corner and stomp over them due to your deck producing more value. You'd do this to Elves, Stompy, Delver, Mono White, Boros Monarch. In a lot of these matchups you can easily win by just using Pestilence.

The other side of the coin are decks that will go over you and produce more value than you can. In these games you either leverage the monarchy and actually beat them on value, or you try and play it fast, dealing enough damage in the early game to have a Pestilence finish them off in two fell swoops.

Kinda, sorta present, only once or twice or day after I get back home when I am here.
And of course you can, with or without credit, even I just took 3 ideas and made 1 of my own out of the mix.

I am pretty sure that the deck description + the how to play + my first most comment go into enough detail. But it is a midrange deck, so you play it as such, the spin that this one has is monarchy and pestilence. Which make turn 4, and the setup it requires vital to success. Oftentimes you'll find that a turn 4 Sentinels or Pestilence can lead to a game loss due to your being too far behind. Likewise, not being bold enough to risk and slam those 4 drops can cost you the game.
