Deck Description

Snacker and Terror get more powerful the more copies you have. Many decks can deal with 1 terror at a time but quickly fall behind when faced with 2 or 3. With Snacker, no additional investment is required to recur additional copies of Snacker - a Brainstorm brings them all back. Thus both threats get better the faster we are able to churn through the deck. This makes for an all-or-something approach that rolls the dice and sometimes rolls you over with good mill hits, but also puts up a more than reasonable fight in the long game provided no terrors get milled over and a deep analysis shows up every now and again.

However... there is a cost to running 8 copies of Mental Note and spending your early game mana on these, just as there is a cost to running the card disadvantage spell that is Careful Study. Additionally, the low removal and threat count of 4 snuff out, 4 snacker, 4 terror can leave the deck feeling completely inept in some games.

This version sacrifices the highest of highs to all but eliminate the lowest of lows; Mystic and Thorn alongside Cast Down and Agony Warp give more longevity in longer games and also and especially following slower starts and harsh self-mill rng.

TLDR: To go all in on tempo you gotta run Careful Study, which is card disatvantage. The Modern Age fixes this but also costs 2 and does not make Terror cheaper, so if you are gonna play it, you may want to slow down and lean more heavily into control and slightly away from tempo: -4 Thought Scour & 1 Spell Pierce, + threats, removal, and a land (Dimir Aqueduct cause you often want to discard the land you bounce = card advantage).

How to Play

IDK, man, it's Dimir.

It is debatable whether going less all in on terror in favor of a more diversified gameplan is a good idea in the current metagame. It is possible that pauper is so fast nowadays that maximizing explosive starts is the way to go, but I do want to experiment with a more controlling build of the deck.
