Deck Description

This is actually comically cheap, but then again, the idea of playing Pox in 2020 is itself comical. Some of its biggest advocates with years – if not decades – of experience report < 50% winrates. But I am nothing if not addicted to the card Smallpox so here we are again, with an arguably innovative and possible dubious build.

Legendless because even though Nether Void is just bloody lovely it would require either dealing drugs or leaving the gas station without paying (my country's national sport) for months to become a reasonable decision.

These days I think you need to run a 4-drop that can win the game on its own, at least if you plan to run Dark Rits. Karn is a popular one to run, but I want to test Court of Ambition and Liliana, Waker of the Dead.

Now I haven't played Legacy for a while, and my only encounters with Legacy Pox for the past 20 or so months consisted only of pondering decklists and watching gameplay. Safe to say I may be off on a few things, but I do keep up with the general public opinion regarding Smallpox decks in multiple formats and impactful 4-drops seem to be performing quite well (for pox standards that is).

How to Play

I once heard it said that when playing pox you use all your resources to exhaust all your opponents resources and then you get into this awkward scenario when you don't really have anything, they don't really have anything, and then what? Well, then you draw dark rits and you die.

...

Which... fair enough, topdeck wars happen often, which is why Nether Void and Chains of Mephistopheles are such sought-after additions to the deck. But there may be ways to not just draw rits and die that don't require you to sell kidney and offspring alike. Cards like big lili and Court of Ambition do give you an endgame that can be deemed commendable. Hell, with turn 2 Dark Ritual -> 4-drop plays, there are now more reasons to run Dark Ritual than ever.
PS: When casting Pox remember the Psychostick song 'I can only count to 4' since according to Pox 1/3 of 4 = 2.
