Well, grixis is THE color combination that I'd like to play the most, even though I try to avoid it due to snapcasters and cryptcis being a must, a 200$ must...I built this from a few things I have, a semi-budget mana base and a diverse spell and threat arsenal. The goal was staying below 150$ which I did not achieve, however to me the deck is about 120$ as I already have many of the pieces.Since we do not have cryptic command we are forced to play cards like Counterflux which are most of the time a lot worse, like 99% of the time.Rune Snag is the hard counter of choice because it is the hardest 2 mana counter besides logic knot which we don't want to run due to 3x GDD mainboard.Think Twice is trying to replace visions and doing an extremely poor job of it, though it is the spell you cast if they don't play anything counter-worthy, so it does the trick.Kalitas is absolutely amazing and one of my favorite cards, he swings games in your favor on his own. A planeswalker with training wheels.Goblin Dark-Dwellers are a lot worse in a deck without Ancestral Visions, they usually flash back serum visions (almost the same :D), terminate or probably the best case scenario, electrolyze.
You try to counterspell everything relevant, due to not playing Cryptic Command you won't be nearly as efficient as you'd like so many things will slip by your counters. Luckily we have ample removal for these situations. 12 pieces of removal + 3 GDD make sure everything relevant dies. Winning is done in many different ways but it usually involves running the opponent out of cards. The deck is lacking in 2for1s so be sure to add some that are good in your meta, be they Anger of the Gods, a greedy card draw spell, more Essence Extraction or GDDs.Upgrades would be: Snapcaster Mage Ancestral VisionCryptic CommandKolaghan's Commandfetches, shocks and fastalnds. For more info on grixis control in modern:http://www.mtgsalvation.com/forums/the-game/modern/tier-2-modern/603567-grixis-controlPS: Don't tell me 180$ isn't modern budget for a deck that is normally like 3 grand, give or take.PPS: Damn, that price went up xD
