Deck Description

Yes I am aware that 180$ is not what is colloquially referred to as budget (not including Tombs or Marshes will cut the price down a decent bit however, as will living in Europe). Just as I am aware that Urborgs make up for half the deck's price. But are you aware that without Liliana, a third color, and fetch lands this deck is quite, quite bad? That is unless you do something like running 12 Land destruction spells along side 3 Tec Edges.

On the topic of Tectonic Edge, let me say that 4 lands isn't really 4 lands all that often with this deck seeing as how Spreading Algae turns 4 into 3 in a quite marvelous way, and Tec Edge turning that 3 into 2 is truly a sight to behold.

And yes, I do have a problem in the form of an addiction to Smallpox Nether Spirit decks.

Now to business:
Why 2 Nether Spirit? Because we want it in every game, at least once. And though it is true that the Nether Spirit is something that should never be put into plural form, it is also true that exiling one from the graveyard is an easy - if not bullet-proof - way of ensuring we get to swing for 2 each turn.

Why 4 Spreading Algae? Because we are too poor to afford Lili, and with a weakened deck that is easily taken out by a single piece of graveyard hate we need to get an edge somehow. And since we are about as fast as 2.5 snails on morphine, we choose 1 mana land destruction spells.

Upkeep Darkblast, Dredge Darkblast, Darkblast is a great little trick. So is milling yourself for like 12 to kill a 3/3 via Barren Moors and Darkblasts with Life From the Loam xD.

Executioner's Capsule + Buried Ruin is slow, restricted, inefficient, and it eats up a land drop, yes, but it also works in the lategame like a charm. Raven's Crime ensures they can't keep cards in hand, Tectonic Edge ensures they can't get ahead on mana, and this stupid artifact synergy ensures they remain at 0 creatures.

How to Play

You attack their hand, their mana base, their creatures, hell, you even have planeswalker removal in there! Once you stop losing - which might be never - you start winning in some almost retarded, crippled way, like attacking for 2 with an un-killable creature each turn, or with worms of all things. The win conditions are few, but varied, this is because we need to ensure that our opponents can't simply Slaughter Games them all away.

The lategame engine is of course Life From the Loam and Barren Moor. Which allows us to draw multiple cards a turn and eventually mills us into a win condition, or anything else we are missing.

In general, I would not build this unless you - like me - are hellbent on playing Smallpox attrition decks in all formats with Smallpox in them and can't afford the full 1000$+ version currently. However, I would not build this if you are never intending to buy Lilianas. This - if anything - is a starting point from which to build into a 3 to 4 color loam pox deck.
