Choose your Destiny

Main Deck (60 cards)

Sideboard (66 cards)

Submit a list of cards below to bulk import them all into your sideboard. Post one card per line using a format like "4x Birds of Paradise" or "1 Blaze", you can even enter just the card name by itself like "Wrath of God" for single cards.

Deck Description

My group of players has gotten to the point where we can't really justify shelling out for cards with reckless abandon. Bills and other boring 'grown person' stuff hamper the spending on colorful pieces of cardboard. Plus we don't need the unnecessary strain on relationships.
Queue the Budget deck series! Every month or two we shell out 20$ on a deck and fight for dominance just like the good ol days.
Much to my chagrin, turns out budget is kindof a thing on the vault! Other mtg players are growing old just like we are!
These decks are made strictly for multiplayer, 4man+ free for all, no boring 1v1 lockdown nonsense. There are politics to be played and faces to maim. Rivalries and alliances rise and fall from turn to turn. Because of this, the game is slowed a notch, more expensive cmc's are viable, after all, nobody wants power seat too early.
We don't care about ban lists, modern, standard, type 2 or whatever.
As always, these decks are open to suggestion, nothing is concrete in this game. Unless otherwise stated of course. ;)

How to Play

I'm still going to call this a budget deck, mostly because some of the cuts were made purely for monetary reasons. (Lookin at you Vexing Devil)

Made purely for Multiplayer Shenanigans. I see it not necessarily as an opponent, more like Environmental Effects, like standing in the fire during an MMO raid. If you hadn't guessed by now, this is made to have the opponents choose how your stuff plays out, either directly (Will of the Council, Task Mage Assembly) or Indirectly (Choice of Damnations)

Basically I'm going to play this, have a 6 pack or two and laugh my head off.

To explain some of my questionable land choices
- Ghitu Encampment/Spawning Pool - Multiple Field Wipes in this thing, I'd rather not be COMPLETELY screwed after those things go off.
- Rhystic Cave/Rainbow Vale - Purely for Theme/Flavor matching.

Sideboard is going to stay gigantic, and I'll be screwing with the decks innards until I find a combination of cards that I really like in group settings.

As always, I am open to suggestions/feedback/etc.

Thanks for the support. If any of my decks make the hotlist, I hope it'd be this one. Its literally made for pure unadulterated fun.

I think every time I play Magic: The Drunkening, I am required to play this now. It's a moral imperative.

Hahaha well thank you, but this is far different than mine, it'd probably be more fun because there's sooo many different outcomes. Also...Magic: The Drunkening.... Damn fine job sir. Damn fine.

And maybe think about indulgent tormentor

It's actually a format my circle plays. Involves taking a shot and keeping a straight face for a "free" counterspell, or chugging a beer for a "free" counterspell, bunch of other fun stuff like that. Figured we all like drinking games, why not turn magic into one?

The how to play section of that deck. Formatting didn't like the comment section, and I wasnt about to fix it on my phone. That would take ages.

Ok so I HUGE fan of Rakdos because it's just so fun to screw with people. I think that this is a perfect example of what Rakdos is all about! Therefore, +1 from me! And I'm probably going to steal this for my own dastardly reasons (cue evil laughter). I have something similar that is white black and is focused around Will of the Council. It is aptly named Democracy. Surprisingly though, I don't have it on vault, so I will be sure to put it in here later and link it for everyone's viewing (and critiquing) pleasure.

Will of the council is just a great mechanic for multiplayer. It lets you be a complete a-hole without actually putting a bullseye on your forehead. At the end of the day, you can still just respond with "well, you did it to yourselves.."

No doubts there. I've used my democracy deck to great effect a few times, and each time I saved stuff until it was literally their own choices that killed them. Between Magister of Worth and Coercive Portal, it was more a question of what was worth blowing up the whole field, and then there's Council's Judgement, which is such a dick move that everyone will hate you forever if it is allowed to resolve

The magister can be a real Debbie Downer for people, so of course I'd love to do it but it was hard enough to whittle this thing down to 60 in just two colors, adding in a possible 3rd color would probably force me to take leave if my sensibilities.

BUT WHERE ARE THE Book Burning(s)?!

1

Hadn't considered them, to be honest. Most players would probably just mill 6, and graveyard decks are becoming popular in my play environment, so I'd just be helping them. But I'll add them to the already ridiculous sideboard in case I change my mind about their usefulness. Work for you?

I like it. My only hesitation is that the card will effectively put a giant bullseye on my forehead. Then again, with so much field wipe I guess that'd be a bit of a non-issue.

love it. i'm gonna use these for my EDH deck, with involves a lot of coin-tossing cards. you're also missing one of my favourites - Goblin Game!

My friends and I are the same way, we play every few months. My budget decks are a little more pricy 50-100 range, but they will take 6 months for me to build. Anyway you may find http://www.mtgvault.com/zeddreth/decks/zombie-madness/ entertaining for a multi player game. Drop the maelstrom pulse and the price goes down substantially.

Very original and creative. My friends and I usually do free for alls and 2 headed giants when we play, so this would be a very fun deck to use.

Budget decks are always good, but even cheaper is printing out proxies on card stock. I no longer any real magic cards because there's no point when you play casually, just proxies.

0
Posted 17 March 2015 at 03:13

I used to do that myself, but eventually we had to stop. Primarily because your group starts to proxy really expensive cards like Force of will or black lotus...

0
Posted 17 March 2015 at 05:02

Which is exactly why I refuse to play with or against proxies. Show some damn respect for the game.

3
Posted 17 March 2015 at 18:49

Respect for the game? How about some respect for the players that make the game what it is. Wizards of the Coast could have chose to make the game a living card game but instead the cards range from worthless to thousands, a massive price scope that makes some cards simply unobtainable to casual players because of perceived value. I won't participate in that system and it was that system which lead me to casual magic. Every Friday Night Magic I've been to it's just unimaginative kids copying pro decks and usually the kid with the most money in his deck wins.

So I'll continue to proxy, you continue to respect the game.

Agree with the above post. Also why I like pauper as a format - I've hosted a casual pauper tournament before (I think buy-in was a loonie with the token award being the pot) and it was hilariously fun.
I also just posted this: http://www.mtgvault.com/mikeyam/decks/pauper-black-disruption/

Wizards of the Coast doesn't set the prices. Morons who net deck do. Can't blame the company for it's idiot followers.

yes i agree with that (re: dumb kids with a lot of money who netdeck). it's unfortunate. though WoC does in a sense drive up prices through its tournament structure that has evolved over time...

I have to agree with The_MoC here. I only use proxies when I bought a card and it's just waiting to be shipped in the mail

The problem is that there aren't many choose your adventure type cards for less than 3cmc. Maybe dropping in a couple low cost walls in would help, but I'm skeptical on that.

i need to post my friend's troll deck on here now. possibility storm and other enchantments make sure that everybody hates him. he never wins because everybody gangs on him, but when he gets a troll enchantment in play it's disasterous.

Ok awesome deck, but why are there no "will of the council" cards? The deck's made for fun multiplayer but your missing the funnest multiplayer ability. Other than that awesome deck!
Btw I really need advice on my Izzet deck from a pro so I was wondering if you could take a look its called "Izzet: Bounce It Back". If you could look at it it'd be really great. Thanks and plus one from me!
