Welcome to Mairsil’s Land of Make Believe, were he makes the rules and he’ll change them all the time. The idea behind the deck is fairly straight forward, make Mairsil the king of activated abilities and ride them to victory. Just about every creature is meant to be locked up in Mairsil’s basement, which allows us to play with some simply powerful abilities that were balanced around being on unplayable creatures. There is no specific win condition to the deck, it is mostly about seeing how crazy we can get the pretender and just do silly things with him on each player’s turn.I think it looks like fun without being too overpowering, and imagining all those creatures in Mairsil's jail playing go fish or the like while he siphon's off their powers is fun.
Aetherling and Arcanis are the most important creatures to get as fast you can. Aetherling has a slew of abilities, but flickering itself is key. Arcanis has a built in bounce, and can tap for three cards, and that's just gas for the deck. Some fun combos:Nevinyrral's Disk doesn't actually require you to sacrifice it to go off, usually it just blows itself up in the process. This allows Mairsil to become indestructible, flicker or bounce himself once the effect goes on the stack, and you're left in a better board state than the rest of the table dealing with the fallout.Kozilek, the Great Distortion is a difficult card to play in most decks, but giving Mairsil, who cages things in the graveyard just as easily as in the hand lets you counter a wide variety of pieces, and with the plethora of card draw in the deck, you'll often have the fuel to utilize it.Helm of the Host lets you get a whole bunch of value from Mairsil, every time a copy comes into play, you get to throw something in the cage. With the helm, you keep the token, which is frankly unfair. With Pack Rat or Myr Propagator, you have to sacrifice the token or Mairsil, but you get another card in the cage.
