I definitely want Thrun, especially because the advent of new counterspell shenanigans with Sam's cycle deck, Mike's counterspy deck, and freaking spellqueller. I'm not sure about asceticism but it would let me regenerate creatures in response to a board wipe. I am probably going to add the hydra back in. I know i can't zenith it which is part of the reason I took it out but it is still just an instant threat.-B

I have just a few thought. First, and most important, you should play this deck more. It played just once, but with the hexproof, indestructible, haste, and undying, it's one of your best decks against control bullshit. Two, Satchel sucks. Three, Thrun is good, but I disagree about Asceticism. It would help with counters, but it would just get countered otself, and it comes in too late. I think I would look to replace the Satchel with Beast Within, Ratchet Bomb with Naturalize (BONKERS against a lot of decks in the meta, but criminally underplayed), and Acidic Slime with Bellowing Tanglewurm (you don't need slime if you have 4 BW and 2 naturalize and Tanglewurm HOSES other creature decks). Primordial Hydra is fine, but probably a little slow in this list. -Boyf
Agree with Sam about the Satchel. Really not doing anything for you. I’d also suggest that the Llanowar Elves aren’t helping either. Ramping isn’t terribly important, and the mana it gives doesn’t help with Dungrove Elder. If you really want more ramp than the Emissary, I’d suggest Dawntreader Elk instead.I know you experimented with it before, but the more I look at this list, the more I like Wolfir Silverheart in it. It’s a 4/4 (or 8/8) body that pumps another creature (that can likely attack) for +4/+4. And if the target has Rancor…I’d use these over Asceticism, Thrun, and Acidic Slime. I also think the deck is somewhat fast, and the immediate impact from 5-mana cards should be welcome. I might also recommend Wandering Wolf as a cheap pressure creature, if you need one. He’s a great compliment to Rancor and the Silverheart.I understand the want for Ratchet Bomb and Beast Within, but I’m not sure they’re all that useful here. Ratchet Bomb is slow and can destroy your own stuff, and Beast Within gives your opponent a decent creature (and one that can block after Tanglewurm, no less). If you tuned the rest of the deck to just pour on pressure, wouldn’t Fog or Prey Upon be just as, if not more useful?Sam is also right that the deck has natural resistance to control (hexproof, indestructible, undying). I think the deck is best if it maximizes the use of these cards, or the likelihood of getting them. Perhaps a couple Hunter’s Insight would be worth considering as well?-Mike
I know the satchel isn't very good it was just a thought to try and get out more land so that the Elder gets bigger more quickly. I also agree on the Ratchet Bomb/Beast Within critique and am probably better off running Prey Upon and maybe Naturalize. I will also probably through a couple copies of the Silverheart back in but I disagree somewhat on Thrun. While I may not necessarily need Thrun, he is a great creature that is another one that is really hard to deal with. His inclusion would just make the deck better i think. I also, am not sure I need more than 2 Tanglewurms because the Zenith acts as an extra copy of whatever creature I need and can give me a little more flexibility with my creature pool.-Bill
I agree with this. I'd say you're right that you don't need a lot of Tanglewurms with the Zeniths (even just 1 is probably enough). And Thrun is fine. It wasn't that I don't think he'd be good here (he's just a good creature period). Just consider the curve and don't go overboard with 3+ mana spells. A deck like this could benefit from a lot of higher cost cards, and the trick will be figuring out how to edit that down to the best possible options.
