Deck discussion for Rage Extractor

Awesomeness! I'm not too sure about your way of gaining life, though. Surely there's better and more consistent ways of regaining life than ETB abilities?

To be honest, I just wanted to use Rage Extractor as a means of doing damage because I like the idea of it, even if I'm not often going to be using the Phyrexian mana costs of things. There's not a lot of good lifelink in red/white in the block, and many of the things that use this kind of mana aren't stellar (a 4/2 haste for 5 in red? Come on.), so I'm making it more as a deck that has the option to use the life rather than always using it.

Ah I get it. I thought it was a more aggressive deck, using the Phyrexian mana as often as possible and then using lifegain to absorb the damage you take. But I see this thing working, quite nice! Cool concept and mechanic :-)

My main deck I'm looking forward to actually putting together is my Doran one. Most of the Vault decks I make are just "I wonder if I can make a deck around -------" and usually it turns out lackluster and disappointing, but sometimes I find something fun.

Yeah same here, I try out a lot of stuff too. But a lot of my decks actually stay together and get played a lot. They get changed or upgraded sometimes, but the core concepts always stay the same.

I don't intend to actually build most of the decks I plan out on here, it's more about seeing how much I can do with an idea. I think I only own two decks that exist almost as they are on Vault. I like looking through cards and improving my ability to make decks, and I think finding weird cards to base decks around is a good way to become better at understanding what's important in my more serious decks. I'm not one to play tournaments or anything, I play with what I like, but I recognize that some ideas are not viable for anything but the novelty of making, say, the islandwalk deck or the double strike cipher deck. I've had two decks that have evolved for over a year now as I've learned the game and I like seeing how far I've come based on how they've changed.

That's what the site is quite useful for indeed, trying out new things and kind of visualising what you've constructed.

I own and play all decks that I put on here, so I'm a bit different than you in that aspect :-) I like having a digital database of my decks, and drawing statistics and trying out changes before I actually change the deck. It's also useful for making proxy decks, like my 2 newest decks (Simic Ally and Multiplayer Discard deck) are in proxy form at the moment. If they work like I expect them to, I have fun with them and I can find the cards in trades or for a reasonable price, i'll consider actually buying & building them.

It's a fun hobby :-)
