Deck Description

Trial decklist for Azaroth the Mighty.
First important note: You always want to go second. If you win the toss, allow them to take the first turn.

*STEP 1: Get creatures into your graveyard.*

Obviously you want your fatties in there, but you also want Dredge cards in there. Putrid Imp, Zombie Infestation, and Careful Study will help you get them there. The Dredge mechanic will then help you quickly mill more into the graveyard. Once you get the ball rolling, things should be set. You will eventually get a game-changing fatty in there to reanimate. If you fail to do this efficiently, you WILL lose.

*STEP 2: Call of the Fatties.*

Now you just need to get those game-changing cards on the field. This can easily enough be done by casting a Dread Return, Animate Dead, or Exhume from your hand. Simple enough, but there is a crucial plan B.

In the course of your dredging, you will hopefully have dropped a Dread Return into the graveyard. If you got really lucky, you also Dredged a few Narcomoeba that you were able to play for free. If so, you can flashback Dread Return by sacrificing the free Narcomoebas and any other cheap chumps. Golgari Thug is good for this. If you have to sac your Imp to make this happen, hope there were other dredge monsters that got milled. And whenever possible res the most useful fattie for the situation (Platinum Angel if near death, Blazing Archon if being swarmed, Verdant Force to fuel more Dread Returns, etc...)

Opening Hand #1: Swamp, Putrid Imp or Zombie Infestation, Dredge.

Opening Hand #2: Island, Careful study, Dredge.

With either of these opening hands, you have a chance. Alternatively, if you do not have a dredge card you will need a fatty and a res card. If you have neither type of creature but have good res cards, you can gamble on drawing into the creatures you need.

If you accidentally dredge most of your res cards into the graveyard, you will HAVE to rely on the flashback of Dread Return. This means hurry up and cast a couple chumps so you can sacrifice them. And remember that once you begin dredging you are basically stuck with your hand. Your spell selection becomes limited since you are drawing the dredged card from your graveyard rather than a new spell from the library.
