Deck Description

Wooohoooo! Celebrate and party people! =P

Shout outs:

WhiteAndBlueTheyKillYou -- Gotta love this guy, been giving his two cents on my decks since the very first. Great taste in music and a king of control!

raggedjoe - The father of new-age Affinity decks! The guy has a gift with artifacts. And ragged, you know I love ya, but you're killing me with that deck =P

EthanLewis - Smart kid, played Standard like a Legacy player, and is now going to make us proud in Legacy!

buddysystem - Another newcomer to Legacy, and a guy who surprises me at times with the things he thinks up.

Edna - If you've ever seen an "Edna post" you know that this dude not only knows his stuff, but isn't afraid to give his good advice and then some.

DoTheWumpus - My buddy Wumps. I love ya you short crazy bastard. Show this guy an aggro deck and he will show you a faster one. He taught me how to do Stompy...

DedWards - Nothing about Ded is normal. The guy is just plain weird, and so are his decks...but that's what make him so great!

BrianBell - Master of all things Fungus and Token. BB is also just a nice dude, and I see his comments freakin' EVERYWHERE. Still looking for that Ghave EDH though =P

dagbaker - I can't help but see this guy as the "little brother" of the vault. Some of the ideas dag has blow me away, so rock on dude.

And to anyone I neglected to mention as well as everyone who has liked, commented, etc. my decks, thank you. Seriously, thank you =]

Everyone who posts here, post your favorite card, and 3-5 questions you want to ask me =]

I don't know the vaulters personally.

I play in the middle Georgia area, but right now I'm not into competitive play. I'm learning how to use the whole 'magic workstation' thing so I can get back into it, but the thing boggles me.

I don't play Dodgeball, I play soccer every now and then.

And my favourite card combo is Entomb -> Exhume/Reanimate/Animate Dead, I loves me my Reanimator.

I know no one personally...

I love dodgeball. After Volleyball, its the best sport there is

Gotta be the Breakfast deck. Sooooooooooooooo damn funny.

From Salvation....
"Mill your entire library, make your opponent discard their hand, gain infinite creatures, deal infinite damage, gain infinite life. *Sunglasses*
>>>That look on your opponents face when you open with City of Brass, Aether Vial."

Also, I once played this deck at the local store. G1 I had to explain the combo to a guy. Game 2 goes as follows:

"Target Illusionist 1000 times"
"In response, StP Illusionist"
"In response, target Illusionist 1000 times"
"Fuck"

Favourite card right now is Doomsday, five cards to win? Challenge accepted.

My questions are pretty simple
1. What's your favourite band?
2. Jay, or Silent Bob?
3. What do you think about a control deck running Doomsday -> Shelldock Isle as a finisher?

Congratulations on making it to one-fifty man!

Grats on 150 man.

I'm goin with Valakut, one of the first decks I've taken seriously in person and so fun to execute a shift win.

1. What is your opinion of the new 'modern/overextended' format?
2. What deck do you play most in person?
3. Who would win in a fight, chuck norris or Ethan?

Thanks dude =]

1) It's going to be a mess. Any time a new format is made, there is always a few cards that in the context of the format are insanely overpowered. It's going to take some time for them to work out the kinks. After that...I dunno, I'll still probably love Legacy the most =P

2) I always keep a few (4-5) decks that I just always bring to the shop, but past those, I randomly pick from my (now giant) box a few more to take. That all said, I mostly play my latest Iso-Seek design, "Kneel before your Lord" ---> http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=177627

3) It'd be a tie =P

I didn't start really playing until the onslought block, so a lot of those older sets are somewhat foreign to me. Because of that, I'm personally rooting for the modern idea. Certain old cards just aren't fun to play against.

oh k here are my questions,

1. is the vengevine there for me?
2. could you get me the link that tells me how to add a pic?
3rdly. How many people that have walked into your magic shop have been able to make it through the 7?

0

1) Yeah, I picked my favorite of the choices you gave me

2) Ian just said they're almost done with an update that allows everyone to upload profile pics, but right now I (and a few others) just got lucky...It's a loooooong story. So just wait a little while and we'll all get to do it =P

3) Back when it was the 6 decks, only one person beat all 6 of us, and that was Arty. He's now the 7th. As it stands now, nobody has defeated all 7. The closest someone has gotten was 4 of the 7. The store owner gave him a free fat-pack. People who are willing to FACE all 7 are given 3 free packs =]

2) If I hadn't made Affinity, what would you have said about me?

3) What's the best/most impressive tournament performance you have had?

3) Wow...uhm, that's hard to say. First that came to mind though was a tourney where I played against another Extraction for 1st place. it was intense. Everyone else in the tourney was circled around us, and I won because he decked out...I had 2 cards left.

5) Did you?

6) I think it has the potential to be legit if it isn't already. Time will tell. I will say this, the deck idea is funny as hell, I don't care if you're on the winning or losing end.

7) Not yet. I think DarkBurn/Black Burn could become legit if it got some more tech =/

Favorite Card: Venser. Quite simply Venser is versatile and awesome.

As per my questions...
1) What first got you into playing Extraction and why?
2) What's your secret to balancing a deck's versatility and its effectiveness along a set strategy / what do you look for first?
3) What standard strategy do you think will be the most powerful/viable in upcoming standard?
4) On a sacale from Moldy Bread to Bone Saw, how awesome is Goblin Grenade?

Congrats on your 150th man. You're a huge part of what makes the Vault awesome, and I can't wait to tune into your next article or just enjoy your incredible decks. =D

Thanks man, appreciate it =]

1) Jester's Cap. It was a lot slower back then, but I still loved it. It started with me saying to someone "Y'know, if you didn't have those ____, your deck would be screwed." The dude was a dick and said "But it does have them, so it works." And that led me to have the epiphany "What if I could MAKE him not have those?"

2) I look at every single card and make sure it truly works with every other card. This means each individual card in a playset even. After that, there's just a 'flow' or 'feel' to decks that work. I gauruntee you've had the feeling. If I don't feel like the deck 'flows', I check everything over. It's an extensive process really, it's just that after doing it so long, and from being an Extractor, I do it a lot faster than most people

3) Mill looks like it could be powerful if done effectively. G/R bloodthirst might be a hard hitter, it was before. I think B/G is gonna be huge to be honest. W/U control looks promising, and Taps looks like it could make one hell of a comeback <_<

4) Goblin Grenade extends the damage threshold of any and every goblin deck/RDW it's put into by about a third...So I'd give it TWO Bone Saws, because it's also funny as hell when you really think about it =P

WOOHOO! i got another shoutout!!
but on a more serious note, congradulations on your 150th. the Ghave EDH is giving me much more trouble than i thought it would. of course, part of that trouble is because i'm a begginner in edh, but also it's just really hard to fit in everything i want to fit in and still have enough ramp to truly abuse ghave's abilities. if you want, i'll try to post the version i'm working with atm and post the link on this here deck. the other problem, of course, is i have been distracted by other things, so while i've been assembling my ghave edh, i've also created a seton, krosan protecter and a jorel, empress of beasts edh. so many things to do, so little time. one of the reasons why i haven't been on the vault in the past few weeks much is because i've been doing alot of testing on MWS....
My favorite card? i havea few favorites. i go through phases where i get entirely obsesed with one card, and then the next minute be hooked on another, so that's a hard question. well, the two cards that will always be in my favorites are ghave, strictly because he's the only legendary fungus and he's in all the fungus colors (i actualy would never put him in a non edh deck, but those two things make him good enough to be a favorite), and Thelon of havenwood (you guessed it), cause he's the lord of fungus.
oh, and before i forget.... does anyone live in San Francisco Bay Area? it'd be nice to have a non MWS game with someone at some point.
and questions i would ask of you.....
1: when i saw m12 spoilers. my first thought was STANDARD STOMPY NOW. so, how do you think a standard stompy would do, complete with skinshifters, baloths, and companions?
2:So, about a year and a half ago, i saw the card shared fate. imediatly i thought "trap someone inside my deck? that sounds like a prison deck challenge. and i'll exept it." so i made a shared fate deck. this is actualy 2 questions: do you think a shared fate deck could be any good? and would you mind making a shared fate deck? here's mine if you want to see, though i haven't revamped it since it was made originaly..... http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=91435
3: do you have MWS? if so, we should play a game or 2.
4: i've heard you and wumpus talking about your team of 7. i no your the extractor and he's the stomper. so what do the others do?

Thanks a ton for being a awe-inspiring and positive presence in the vault. and once again, congrads on 150!

I'd be game to look at it sure dude.

1) Have you seen Wumps' Stompy 101? There's your answer lol

2) Shared fate was a goofy/fringe "poor-man's Extraction" for like...4 months. Then it just never worked competitively. The idea is to draw a LOT more than the opponent. I might try it though =P

3) Eh, I tried to get it, but the damn thing is all finicky for me. I might try to finagle it a bit, but idk...

4)The "Seven Decks" are as follows:

1) Extraction (Mine) - "Kneel before your Lord"
2) 10 land Stompy - "BumF**k"
3) Extraction - "Enigma"
4) Esper Prison - "Alcatraz"
5) A deck similar to my Black Sacrifice - Unnamed =/
6) Extraction - "Go Fish"
7) Tempo - "Four dead in Ohio" (It's an artifact Tempo...Thus, 'Tin Soldiers')

I know what you mean about MWS... I've been using it for months, and still have no idea what in the ninth ring of hell is going on. I've just given up on trying to figure it out, and have started using the excuse that it's like voodoo when people ask me why I did something. >_<

It oddly enough works half of the time.

Now to comment normally (mostly because I'm getting a headache trying to continue my mental instability)

@surewhynot - Thanks for the recognition, I seldom get the recognition I deserve :P
Fave card? I don't have one, but if I had to choose, I'd say Infiltration Lens, draw is just nasty in a goblin/burn deck and equiping the lens to Goblin Gavalier is why I came 3rd (out of 9 people) last week :D (it's my first time making it into the top 3 of a tournament).

@Izgeraldz13 - Me? A celebrity? You sure about that? I'm normally just considered to be the guy that's just there (like part of the furniture).

@batman69 - Sadly, I live in South Africa (and you're not getting any more info than that), so the odds of me knowing anyone on the Vault are slim to none. I don't play any sports, the most strenuous thing I do is ride bicycle to work every day. "favorite card combo", hmmm... don't know about that, but I have been enjoying the "combo" of equiping Goblin Gavalier with Infiltration Lens :D

Hey thanks to all the vault celebs. You guys rock, really friendly helpful and scary at making decks. I have a question which i think i know the answer to maybe but here goes:
i have blowfly infestation out. i have 4 2/2s, 3 with a -1/-1 counter on each of them, 1 without any counters. enemy has a 2/2 with no counters. A spell forces me to sac 3 creatures. Can i sac all of the 2/2s and pile 3 -1-1 counters on the enemie's 2/2?

0

No. So, effect that puts the 2nd -1/-1 counter on the guy begins to resolve... Guy gets -1/-1 counter (making him a 0/0), at the end of the resolution, state-based actions are checked... And he dies due to having 0 toughness. This check happens immediately after the 2nd -1/-1 counter is added, is unavoidable, and does not use the stack:

Right now, my favorite card is Bloodghast, but he's already on the list... beyond that, I play a little bit of everything, and can't really claim a favorite card.. so I'll just pick one I've loved for a long time. Krosan Beast!

Questions..
1) You have quite an extensive collection of cards. If you had to estimate, how much would you say your collection is worth?
2) Do you have a will?
3) Would you declare me as inheritor to your collection?
4) If not, would you at least send me a Rishidan Port for Christmas?
5) If not, would you trade one for a sheep or a pair of ducks? The ducks are big.
6) Can I ask a sixth question?

1

lol Krosan Beast seems like the result of drugs =P

1) It's scary to think about...I'd have to say it's at least $10,000...maybe more...hell it could be twice that to be honest. I actually do keep my decks in a safe =P

2) Not yet

3) I currently own 32 copies of Bloodghast...I'll declare you inheritor to...4 of them =]

4) <_< No way...do you know how hard it is to get a hold of those things?

5) I honestly think a sheep and two ducks is, in total, worth less money than a Rishidan Port...

6) I see what you did there...

1
Posted 14 July 2011 at 08:52

There definitely was some inspiration going on to conceive Krosan Beast..

7) What could you possibly need 32 copies of Bloodghast for? Sort of answering my own question, I once collected nearly 200 copies of Dirty Wererat as part of a competition. Every time I saw a new one I'd quote "You dirty wererat, you killed my brother!"

Also, Rishadan Port goes for $42 on average, according to MagicCards.info. Being free-range organic meat animals, the sheep and ducks can sell for quite a bit more than that.

Favorite card right now would have to be Genesis Wave, purely cause all the fun I have with it in my Ally deck (pst... you should look at it).

1) What was your favorite (or possibly most hated) tribal deck that you've played against?

2) An estimate to the size of your card collection.

3) Any advice to someone who is finding his way back into standard after hiatus during the Scars block?

Answering since I may have ordered him to sleep a few hours ago :D I will attempt to answer as he would.

1) Does raggedjoe's affinity deck count? If so, that. If not... Merfolk

2) Lets put it this way... I dont remember what color my rug is. 100,000 cards? Maybe? Give or take 50%? But who would want to count

3) Don't standard is a stupid format. Play legacy. But if you must... play Valakut. It gains Rampant Growth and blue loses Jace. Should be pretty easy to pick up again, and dawmn powerful. Aggro decks? Meet Slagstorm.

lol ragged got it pretty close. Btw, how many hours of sleep does it take to be called a coma? =P

1) Wumps' Elf/Druid deck is the tribal deck I both love and hate more than any other. I want it so bad, and wish I had thought of it...But, I need to think about what my most disliked tribe that's legal in our shop's Tribe tourneys...That's a whole different story. I'm leaning towards Wumps' Snake tribe, but Arty has an Advisor tribe that makes me want to kill people...

2) A LOT =P

Anyways I'm an oldie when it comes to magic cards so yea >>... those are almost all either Alpha cards or Urza cards, and like the description of the deck says I do own them all and 1 of each of those moxs's stays in it's unwrapped cover :D. Anyways!! Check it out think you might like it for when your just wanting to have a little fun.

1. Your B/G persist deck that goes off of mylera + (perist creature here most likely murderous redcap) + Blasting station/Altar of Damentia ... Do you even use/play this anymore with the new ruling from DCI (or w/e they call them selves) saying that the persist creature comes back at your upkeep stage ? o-o.

honestly that is the only real question I can think of at this time xD.

I think you are confusing two things... the persist ability goes on the stack as soon as the creature enters the graveyard. It has nothing to do with you upkeep step...

Well from what a friend of mine says (who is a DCI judge) they recently ruled that the creature would return to play at upkeep or w/e instead of auto happening like I would think would happen. Getting those out should be instant win i'd think =/.

Congradulations surewhynot on 150 deck.

Current Favorite Card
Show and Tell - that it is not banned or restricted in Vintage and Legacy is amazing. Its like green's Eureka but costs one mana less and because it is blue can be backed up by counterspells thus leading to the combo Show and Tell + Hivemind + Pact of Negation. This combo alone may lead to Show and Tell's eventual banning or restriction. But till that happens I'm going to abuse the hell out Show and Tell.

1. Is this really your 150 deck at the Vault? (I'd of thought you'd done more.)
I must of done over 150 decks about 2 months ago but I decided to remove almost all my decks that didn't have comments and that weeded me back down to below 100 decks.

2. I'm big on what I call core deck design. Making decks with a core set of cards that really work well together then just tacking on a few more cards that typically are the kill cards for the deck. (See my Fun Decks and Blue and Black Core decks for examples.) If you were to use core deck design what would be the core cards for a legacy and standard extractor decks?

3. Sliver tribe is probably the strongest tribe in Magic. What would you say is the weakest tribe? (I'll go make a deck based on your choose immediately)

4. I love crazy almost silly combos (Treasure Hunt + Mana bond for example) . I know you love bitterbomb but what was the funniest combo you ever saw or played?

5. I want to make a Legacy test deck suite (sort of like your stores 7 decks) what do you think is
Best Legacy Aggro deck:?
Best Legacy Control Deck?
Best Legacy Combo Deck?

Thanks again for all your support of MTG Vault

And may you always make your own good luck,

1) Yeah, pretty crazy huh?

2) Gimme some time to figure out a list, the question's answer is a bit more complicated than you think...

3) Orb. I dare you to make one without Changelings.

4) Illusions of Grandure and Donate is pretty funny, so is Stuffy Doll + Guilty Conscience. I know there's a funnier one, but I just can't think of it (it's gonna drive me crazy)

5) Again, hard to say...I'll have to think about it =/

For the moment, it's a tie for favorite card between Venser the Sojourner and Beacon of Creation. The former because of his versatility (and the fact that he just fun to play) and the latter because it symbolizes (and is part of) my favorite type of deck. :D A runner up might be Jace Beleren (dubbed "Baby Jace" or "Little Jace" in our store) because he was our $8 kill to your $80 bomb. >:3

1. Has or will mill ever make it to the top?
2. Is there a tribe that you want to make a deck for but haven't or can't?
3. Thoughts on EDH being made an "official" (read: WotC fueled) format?

0
Posted 14 July 2011 at 19:58

1) Yes, Tolarian Academy.

2) I have a few in the back of my mind, but for the most part I've made all the tribes I've wanted to. I sorta want to do Insects. I already did Insect/Elf...but not just Insects...I also kind of want to make a Sliver deck. I have all these Sliver cards and never use them...

3) It was inevitable. So far they've been great with keeping it to true to the casual style it's meant to be, and I hope they continue it that way. Overall I'm pleased with what they've done.

if you want to make a sliver deck here is an auto win combo to keep in mind. Sliver Queen + Ashnods Altar (sp) + Heartstone . That alone is unlimited sliver tokens. But the auto win combo on top of that that makes it just OMG WTF JUST HAPPENED TO ME!!?!?!?!?!?!? is Acidic Sliver and or Darkheart sliver.

Acidic is sac a sliver do 2 dmg to target creature or player, and Darkheart is Sac a sliver gain 2 life.

First off, my favorite card is by far fodder launch.
my question? A rather long one.
So, the story behind my deck comes from playing magic with my buddy. He recently created a new deck with tinker and blightsteel colossus so he gets an 11/11 with infect out by turn 3-4 depending on his mana. I decided that i was going to make a discard deck to get rid of his blightsteel so it couldnt haunt me, but i realized that it automatically comes back from his graveyard if it gets put there so shucks to that stratgey, but then i (re)found my card, Megrim. So i want to incorporate it into this discard deck.
Q: If you find some time (or anybody who finds some time to look at this deck) could you please help me find 8 more cards to make it legit. Thanks so much if you do :) http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=208886

Tribal format? what tribal format? what are your shop's "rules", banned list, etc?

0
Posted 15 July 2011 at 14:40

Yeah, Tribal is an awesome format.

- Legacy legalities, 60 card constructed.

- All decks entered must be tribal decks, which means they must have at least 10 cards devoted to a specific tribe/tribes.

- If a deck has more Changelings than actual creatures of the tribe type, then the deck is declared a Shapeshifter tribe, or in some cases, a Shapeshifter/____ tribe.

- Banned tribes are as follows: Elves, Kithkin (unless for Goats), Goblins, Merfolk, Vampires, Soldiers, Knights, Faeries, Clerics, Slivers, Cats (thank god...), Myr are up for debate, Treefolk (My fault -_-), and Zombies and Elementals are on/off. (Think that's all of them...)

- Banned cards: Engineered Plague, Harsh Mercy (holy balls), An-Zerrin Ruins, Patriarch's Bidding (Restricted), and Extinction.

0

On a whole, that sounds awesome, but why so many tribes banned? Some I can understand, but others I can't o.O

0
Posted 16 July 2011 at 09:11

So wait... If I took Joe's RUG Tempo deck, and slipped in a tenth Wizard, would it be legal for the tribal format as a wizard tribe? XD

0
Posted 16 July 2011 at 13:43

I suppose it would, but that might very well lead to Wizards being banned. It hasn't been the first time that the tribe has been on the chopping block =/

The tribes listed have proven to be far stronger than the majority of other tribes on more than one occasion. I disagree with Myr and Elementals being up for debate, but the others, when you really think about it, make sense.

0
Posted 16 July 2011 at 19:49

Especially the power trio of tribal; Goblins, Elves, and Merfolk. Zombies are over powered in my area because over half of my main group has Zombie decks, and one of them carries around four of them with himself whenever he's aiming to play >_< The amount of lords has gotten out of hand.

I'd fully support Wizards being banned as a tribe, and I'm the one who plans to use them if I can convince my group to start this format. We'd play it more budget friendly probably, so we could do it at the shop without them having to reacquire a lot of things.

Tribe I'm working on is often never thought of as such, but I'm going with Humans XD

0
Posted 16 July 2011 at 21:16

Hmmm... I think the format sounds really awesome, but is waaaay to easy to break... My RUG list as WnB said, and I got a few more too. Also, I suppose Cats is banned since Legacy Zoo has 10 cats in it?

Let me break some tribes for you though...
Spirit Tribal: Cascade of Hypergenesus with 2 The Unspeakable for 1 Emmy and 1 Progen.
Spirit Tribal: RG Belcher with 2 Shields of Velis Vel for 2 something
Human Tribal: Any legacy version of Soul Sisters
Elemental Tribal: Any burn deck with Kiln Fiend, Chandra's Spitfire, and Cinder Pyromancer
Lhurgoyf Tribal: Tarmogoyf and Terravore. Have fun.
Artificer Tribal: Stoneforge Mystic and Grand Architect. Have fun.
Vintage Oath decks can be made tribal...

0
Posted 17 July 2011 at 00:15

I suppose that's true, but the format is meant to be in the spirit of more casual play. Besides, those would be considered Hypergenesus decks or Belcher decks since they're distinctly NOT about being a tribe. Cats was banned for being the Zoo design, but then we brought them back and just said Zoo is more "Zoo" than "Tribal", much like Belcher is more "Combo" than "Spirit". But then we re-banned Cats because of Cat Equipment decks...That's why I said "Thank god", because for a long time nobody really wanted to admit that Cat Equipment was too good.

As for Human, I don't know if you could get away with it, since many of them are also Clerics...but if you did, I'd admit, that'd be really good.

That's one of the prime reasons that Elementals are on/off...

<_< Nobody has done Lhurgoyf yet...now I fear the day someone does...

Artificer is one of the two I forgot about, and not even because of SFM to be honest. Artificers are surprisingly good (who knew?). The other is Rebel, and then Rogue is also up to be scrapped.

Again, Oath would be seen as Oath and not tribal really.

0

myr survived the banning! :D both zombies and elementals are back on the list. rogue survived banning, which worries me. :| also sure, you forgot allies, which got banned today too. nothing about wizards, but raggedjoe's deck could be the nail in the coffin if someone brings something like that. :P
so here is the updated banned tribe list:

1. elf
2. cleric
3. kithkin*
4. goblin
5. ally
6. zombie
7. artificer
8. rebel
9. sliver
10. merfolk
11. knight
12. soldier
13. elemental
14. vampire
15. faerie
16. cat
17. treefolk

*may be used to produce goats

i think it is pretty agreeable really, except for rogues and probably wizards. it never occurred to me that lhurgoyfs could be ban-worthy but i suppose the really could be. :O

2) When a new release comes ie M12, what types of cards are you first looking for?

3) What is your opinion of the evolution of Magic rules and game formats (yeah... can of worms there :P)

4) If you have had a chance to review the M12 set what cards stand out to you as potentially or obviously broken?

5) A cold beer or a hot cup of coffee? (This could be a trick question)

Here's for the questions:
1. What was your favorite ever idea for a deck?
2. Have you ever been sponsored, or participated in a sponsoring tournament?
3. How many individuals have you spanked with each of your decks?

Also if it's not to much to ask I'd appreciate constructive criticism on an M12 construct deck. Needed one for standard tourney's and I figured I'd start with just core: http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=209446

Hostility is my favorite card!
Q1: Are you a good songwriter? My roommate and I were discussing whether being able to create a streamlined deck would have any effect on writing a good song. Clear, concise, and to the point.
Q2: Do you believe that there are an infinitely infinite amount of universes?
Q3: Should I have cereal or cereal for breakfast?

Hey, nice thread. Guess i'll join the party.
Favorite card would be Bribery. It won me my very first game of magic and so it just sticked.

1) Where's the username from? Depending on the story, maybe not too much details? Haha. ;)
2) Ketchup, mustard or relish?
3) Why did Kamikaze pilots wear helmets?
