Unlike my Seizan EDH, this is not meant for players to draw cards, then discard them. This is meant for players to never have a hand. Layers of offense and defense help take care of anything the opponent might manage to get into play.

I am still just a rat in a cage?

Yes. Thinking the same. That, and this deck is broken :)
Glad I'm not the only one...
This is random as hell. But you guys seem both experienced here, and with a lot of posts. I checked out Essential Magic...and it looked to suck. Friend told me about it. I have thousands of cards I never used. Not anything major! Nothing over 30 dollars or more. I do sale, for store credit, to a company. But thing is with them, they only want very few cards at a time. Is there anywhere you guys know that actually trades cards? And is reliable?
I think TCGplayer.com has a trading hub, and they've always been good to me in regards to buying/selling (mostly buying, but still)
It would be awesome. I have cards that I have a dozen or so copies of. Just sitting and collecting dust. I will check it out.
I think one of the most powerful tricks this deck, or this general specifically, has on offer is that Nezumi Shortfang's ability works at instant speed. There is a very good reason almost no discard effects are instant speed. If he times it correctly, which I know he will (the bastard), he can force you to effectively skip a turn and at the same time, trigger Nezumi Shortfang to flip. This even works if someone manages to kill off Stabwhisker, as he will return to the Command Zone as Shortfang. At that point in the game it is likely the opponent is top decking, which means another instant-speed discard will create another lock-out and Stabwhisker is back in the game. And that, all you little chitlins, is why instant speed discard effects are (thankfully) extremely rare.

Discard can be super fun. and although I am not a big fan of EDH, this looks to be really fun to play. Although I am curious as to why you aren't running Cunning Lethemancer in here since you have Necrogen Mists, which does the exact same thing, only in enchantment form instead of creature form.also, I was wondering if you would take a look at a recent deck that I designed. It is rather... strange, for me at least. Hoping to get some feedback on it.http://www.mtgvault.com/kazzong/decks/landslide/if not, that's cool. OH YEAH!!!! Gnat Miser is cool. :) almost forgot to mention that. as is library on leng. another newly found favorite. :)
Y'know, I forgot about Lethemancer. I might have to try out having him in instead of Mists, thanks.
Why not both, for consistency?
I suppose, but I have no idea what I would take out in it's place. Black Cat?
Hmm... That is a tough call.
Black Cat does seem to be one of the weaker creatures (unless I am missing a combo with it).
but it is cheap. um.... I don't know. perhaps gibbering descent? it is fairly expensive for what I does. although the skipping of your upkeep IS really nice with all of the cards losing you 1 life every turn... hmm... I really don't know. this is kinda out of my normal build type. um... is black cat really all the useful for its mana cost, in comparison to some of the more mana heavy cards in here?
That's why I was thinking about it. Black Cat is great, and it is cheap, but it's effect is a one-timer. Lethemancer is more constant.I think I'm gonna do that, take out the cat for Lethemancer.
yeah, that makes sense. You have enough low CMC cards that it shouldn't mess with your curve too badly, and overall Cunning Lethemancer is a much more effective card. probably a good call. :)Ok, kind of random question: what is the draw of EDH/Commander? It just seems so difficult to build anything really effective, seeing as how everything has to be singletons. What makes it an interesting format?
Because everything is singleton, it lets you use cards that you might never otherwise use. I think it's also the casual nature of it, it's a slower format where (because of the size and singleton aspect) just about anything can happen. It allows for people to sit down and chill while playing a game.As for difficulty to build...EDH isn't really easier or harder to build for, it's just different all together. It helps a ton to have a commander you enjoy and can really build around. I dunno, I love it =]
hmm... I just guess that I don't care for the more random nature of the decks... but perhaps I will give it a try some time. :)
I can see where ever game would be different. That is nice. I also could see where you could sit around, and enjoy yourself with good talk/food/etc, as well as a good game. Where it isn't all about who can win in 4 Turns. But with that said...it is the random nature that throws me a little off. Central theme, sure. But it is very random. Hard to change your mind set, you know? That...and i do not know the rules, lol. Might look into it. Thing is...I have no one in the world that would play. Only friend that plays does not like it. And local card shop no one plays it.
toooooooooooo slooooooooooow
As apposed to..?
um... the $57,000 turn 1 banned tinker deck I designed maybe? but probably not much tourney legal for EDH.
Just a heads up I didn't read all the comments but the creature must be legendary when in the command zone not when it flips. 709.2. In every zone other than the battlefield, and also on the battlefield before the permanent flips, aflip card has only the normal characteristics of the card. Once a permanent is flipped, its normalname, text box, type line, power, and toughness don’t apply and the alternative versions of thosecharacteristics apply instead. So basically he can't be used unless your playgroup allows it. Sorry to rain on the parade....
Yeah my playgroup allows it. We allow anything that can become or produce a legendary creature to be used as a general. I have another deck that uses Genju of the Realm as its general, for example.
Just wanted to check that you knew this.
Yeah it's no problem =]
I would definitely toss Funeral Charm, or a Swamp for Waste Not.
Well, there's no way I'm ditching Funeral Charm, so I suppose it's a swamp =PI have gotten flooded a number of times with this deck anyway, and you can argue that Waste Not is a pretty decent mana source. How do you like the rest of the deck? =]
Yeah, I can totally understand that. I said Funeral Charm because I know you usually like a super stable landbase, and while Funeral Charm is the utility knife from hell I thought it would be the least disruptive to the overall design.I'm going to make something with Waste Not, the card Notch designed, and Words of Waste. I just think that'd be absurdly fun, even if I already know it's not the best idea.I quite like the rest of the deck, though I am surprised at the lack of Black Cat to match your Drainpipe Vermin. Though I suppose the rest of the deck more than makes up for it.
I actually DID have Black Cat I here. But I took it out for Sad Hippie or something. It was for the better, I remember that haha.
So I also realized I seriously need to find a place in my Seizan EDH for Waste Not. Halp again? =P
Never played EDH, but with 99 cards to choose from...versus 60 in a normal deck...is it easier to decide what to move/sub in an EDH deck?
I'd say sometimes it's harder because of how EDH plays. You want each of those individual cards to have a significant reason to be there and work with any of the other 98 cards in the deck.
Also...Lemme tell you something about Ill-Gotten Gains with Waste Not in play. Holy balls. In a multiplayer game, it's just unreal. I've gained like, eight mana, got a smattering of zombies, and drew about 5 cards...Plus got 3 cards back from my graveyard...Which I could then play because of all the mana!Waste Not + Discard based general = Shenanigans.
ALSO! I can't believe you haven't tried EDH Jessie. You of all people should give it a try. You'd love it.
I have one copy of Ill-Gotten Gains. Put it in my red/black Liliana's Caress deck. After having Caress in play, i play Gains to bring back stuff like Burning Inquiry to my hand. It is a nasty card. For sure. I might try EDH one day. My biggest issue=no one to play against, in regards to EDH. And I can do a deck around Gains/Waste Not. Sounds very viable.
Having Caress or Megrim out and playing Iggy can flat out kill someone by itself. Love it when you get those two cards together.Yeah, I guess I'm spoiled in that three of my best buds AND THEIR WIVES/GIRLFRIENDS play magic, including EDH and our shop's tribal format.
Great deck, if you have a moment check out the last deck i made EDH one thanks
Seriously???Merry Christmas guys.
Merry Christmas!!
Merry Christmas. :)
*sings* And a happy new year. :)
