Deck discussion for Chiaroscuro

Best name for a W/B deck ever.

Being an artist I also love the name, and I have a soft spot for Orzhov decks myself <3
This looks like a more expensive version of what my Orzhov does. Just pump and kill stuff. You do with creatures what I do with spells. I'm not really sure what I can add to this deck, but yeah. Much love for Chiaroscuro :D

Thanks guys, glad people knew what the title meant. I love...pretty much everything about Orzhov. I don't think there's a single "bad" B/W card, which is a crazy claim when you think about it. The deck is so far very consistent, and with all the insane artwork and abilities, it's also a hell of a lot of fun to play.

I know, right? The fact that most of them work together seamlessly doesn't help the argument that there's a "bad" BW card. Best first and second turn ever is Nip Gwillion and Edge of Divinity. Best second and third is Mourning Thrull followed by another Edge. Honestly thinking about it the only thing I would try to cram into this deck is Mortify. Enchantment and creature removal all in one package. Of course one could delve a bit further into the past and pull up Vindicate. However, I'm sure you've already known about these cards which renders my suggestions nearly useless ;)

Hmmm, the contrast is indeed a great chiaroscuro. Also, weirded me out when I actually knew what it meant. Ah the wonderful things we learn from comparisons of Ludwig Van Beethoven to artwork.

Very good looking deck, and as you said, it seems consistent. I think I love this more than anything for the title though, quite brilliant.

Thanks man. I had to get myself away from making tribal deck after tribal deck, so I put this together. I really hope Innistrad brings back the dual colors because this reminded me just how much I love B/W =P

I've been disappointed by standard for the lack of splashes working how I want them, I'd be happy for them to just pop out some new contrasting dual lands...

I've actually not heard pretty much anything about what's going to be in Innistrad, but I'm personally hoping it's the return of the Cabal :D They've long been my favourite piece of flavour from the game, and with Liliana Vess being one of the main players for the story of it... I can dream of a new Braids XD

Nice deck man! why would wanna stop making tribals? lol they are my favorite! Strangely enough its the hag Nip that started my great love for B/W. One card that may be of use to you is batwing brume, i personally have found it to be quite useful, especially against aggro decks and whatnot:p

I dunno, I just wanted to change things up a little bit. I love Batwing Brume, and who knows, maybe I'll give it a go after some more play. At the moment though, I looooooove this deck =}

Why don't you play any spot removal?
Black and white are the two kings of it I mean I know you probably thought of a reason I just don't know what it is.

The deck has a ton of disruption and control actually. Teysa provides a pretty constant threat, Tidehollow removes higher threats, Ban is a total nuisance, Pillory is insult to injury against tough creatures, and Deathbringer Liege basically says "All spells you play gain 'destroy target creature'."

Works great for Death's Shadow. Kills some potential of some deathtouch-ers. It has its uses, and I'm sure it can help win games. Say I have 9 life and a 3/3 while you have 3 life, 3 tapped Hill Giants and an untapped mountain(for a bolt), I attack, you bolt and I pay 2 life and win...if I don't kill, I can holy day after you attack so I can take the win the next turn.

It's obviously situational, I'd say it's better for EDH and 2HG

This deck is beautiful. I've always want to put together a b/w deck, but could never find the right cards (I play standard, but I want to go in to other game types) This deck makes me want to weep with happiness.

Thank you dude, that means a lot. I think "beautiful" is a great way to describe the deck honestly. I've always seen B/W cards as having some of the most magnificent artwork in the game. This deck was designed not just to be good, but to express the increadible artwork thus my choice for the name. I've already gotten back the custom sleeves I ordered for it and they're unreal.

And now I'm trying to find cool artwork for proxies for the Scrublands since they're unfortunately not that great looking =/

So far this looks like what I'll use:

What website do you use for custom card sleeves? That would be something I'm highly interested in. The art work you chose is awesome. I like the art work for the scrublands as well. I've always liked the brushed art look. It seems to combine the brushed look and the pen sketch, I really like it.

As of yet I don't think there's any "mainstream" company that does it, which is really odd since the market for it seems huge. Our store owner has a friend who does custom artwork printings for other things like buisness cards, magazines, etc. Whenever we want custom sleeves we give the artwork we want to the owner and he sets up the rest. About....1-2 weeks later you get REALLY nice cards with your art on them. I've told the guy he could make a killing, but he doesn't seem to think so =/

Wish I could give you a more positive answer, but so far...you just gotta know a guy =/

Ah, that's too bad. Oh well, at least you get the cool stuff :)

Could you do me a favor and tell me what you think of some of my decks. (They're all standard)

Wow, and I thought using Another World by M. C. Escher on my newer Nether Void deck was a good fit. The graveyard is simply spectacular, and fits the flavour PERFECTLY.

I'm surprised you're not running Stillmoon Cavalier's over the Tidehollow Sculler and no Unmake's are anywhere to be seen... Sad face :(

I also find Souls of the Faultless to be a great defender who adds control like Royal Assassin used to...

0

Two reasons those cards aren't in:

1) They didn't have as good of artwork as the other choices I have in the deck (save for maybe Souls)

2) There quite simply isn't enough room in a deck to fit all the epic crap that Orzhov has to offer =P

Yeah, Unmake does kind of of look weird. Although Kithkin in general looked odd through the entire block with their squarish shaped heads. The cavalier does have a lot of detail granted, but it's such a good card... but I understand your reasons good sir...

Souls of the Faultless FTW though...

This deck is a truly work of art, a masterpiece.

It combines the elegance and art of a black & white deck as also its playability. Even the name is something else.

Congratulations man!

I have made a B/W version with almost only creatures and painter's servant naming black, thus giving you an unlimited stream of black and white flying 1/1 for teysa to play with. maybe not something to consider for this deck, but the combo is pretty sweet i think!

one of my first decks were the "code of the orzhov" deck, and ever since, i have always loved orzhov (=
