Deck discussion for Competitive Modern Boros Burn

The issue with the deck is that there isn't really a good wincon in it. You'll run out of spells before you can do some serious damage. The deck is basically a bunch of lightning bolts thrown together. I'd playtest before building but I highly doupt it will work.

@heterokingis: This is a pretty standard burn shell, the win con is to hit the opponent with high-efficiency spells.

@SuperMegaPanda: I would personally drop 2 Searing Blaze and 2 Shard Volley for 4 Lava Spikes. Overall I think it looks good!

Want advice about this deck? I often beat it 2-0 at GPs, if your enemy can block your 12 creatures you lose.

i would recomend adding in vexing devil, lava spike and some card draw to refill your hand with burn spells. Risk factor is a OK option for that. Also, clifftop retreat is a better land than inspiring vantage if you take out arid mesa, and replace with mountains and stuff. I would do that because the deck is only two colors and you already have eight two colour lands in it. My last suggestion is maybe hazoret, as you should be able to play and attack with him turn 4 and he helps you survive late game.

What should I replace with Hazoret if I were to do so?

I prefer a mix of Inspiring Vantage and Clifftop Retreat (2 of each). Inspiring Vantage is strictly better in your opening hand. Arid Mesa is also good in this deck because it helps your Searing Blazes hit the landfall trigger.

I run Vexing Devil in my mono red burn, and it does well because my opponent often takes 4. Typically you don't win with burn by swinging creatures. You win with damage spells. Goblin Guide and Swiftspear are great turn 1 because you'll likely get 3-4 damage out of each, but they aren't generally how you close out a game.

Hazerot is a better sideboard card as his cost is bad in many match ups.

I have a question about modern decks. First, one specifically about this one. Why is Eidolon so fantastic, and second, why do people often have dual lands in their decks that don’t go with the color combos, such as a Bloodstained Mire in a Boros Burn deck?

1) Most modern decks run spells that trigger Eidolon. Eidolon can easily do between 4-6 damage while also providing a body that threatens to swing or block. It's very efficient at only 2 mana.

2) Fetch Lands help thin your deck (providing a very slight improvement to your odds of drawing the spells you need) and in burn decks specifically they can make it easier to hit your landfall trigger for Searing Blaze.

But wouldn’t Eidolon just hurt you a bunch with your loads of cheap spells?

Yes, but at a slower rate. Each of your spells hits your opponent for 3+ while Eidolon is pinging you for 2. You win when your opponent is at 0 life, it doesn't matter if you're at 1 or 20.

That’s fair

I like the concept, but the Hazoret imho is a little out of place. It might be a little too heavy. I see other people suggesting Lava Spike, and I would have to agree. Lava spike could possibly go better here. I ran a similar deck that went rather well at tournaments about a year and a half ago. Best of luck, and happy burning!

You have too much white in your mana base. Cut out every single plains in the deck, and just put in the extra Arid Mesa and Sacred Foundry that you are missing to make a full playset of both.

You cut 4 lands that will be useless 60% of the time, and put in 4 lands that will be useful at all times. It's really a no brainer.
