Believe it or not, this deck is moderately cheap for the cards it revolves around. The main idea for this deck is to get the infinite combo off between Bloodchief Ascension and Mindcrank. Everything else is built to help you achieve that combo.
Bloodchief Ascension and Mindcrank aside, all of the other cards have a specific purpose. Because Bloodchief gets an extra counter per 2 damage, Bloodghast is probably the best option to provide a consistent stream of damage. Manic Vandal, while it isn't a worthwhile card in most decks, is quite useful here because it falls into the color scheme of the rest of the deck and provides some control against artifact decks, which have been very powerful in the meta for a while. Tezzeret's Gambit is useful for card draw and adding an extra counter to Bloodchief mid-turn. Sign in Blood is a good draw card that also fuels Bloodchief and can be a game-ender if your opponent is on critically low life. Staggershock, while it also normally isn't very good, can ensure two consecutive turns of Bloodchief counters because of its rebound effect. Lightning Bolt is a staple for literally every burn deck. Hideous End is good for removal and, yet again, fueling Bloodchief. Volt Charge is for more Bloodchief fuel from the proliferate, and is especially unpredictable if you play it on the opponent's turn. Finally, Duress is useful for getting rid of more artifacts, enchantments or other spells, or for planeswalkers that could easily shift the battle against you.
