Use Skullclamp and Ashnod's Altar on your cheap and easy creatures to get a fast Mortal Combat Victory. You might not get a first turn win (possible with the secondary win bellow), but you could have Mortal Combat set up for your second turn. Secondary win condition with Disciple of the Vault; if they are on the board fast enough, they can work with Skullclamp to do enough damage. Ex: Swamp, Dark Ritual, Ornithopter, Skullclamp, Culling the Weak (after draw you have 4 cards, 4 floating black, and Skullclamp in play). Ex 2: Swamp, Memnite, Dark Ritual, Culling the Weak, Ad Nauseam (maybe you get another Dark Ritual or Culling the Weak before you stop Drawing to cycle through your critters with Ashnod’s Altar). v2: http://www.mtgvault.com/spudshaver/decks/skullcombat-v2-bug/

I don't see any turn one win, but this is definitely an awesome deck. For a quicker win, I would suggest Buried Alive cause itgets three cards in the graveyard with Ad Nauseum could actually get you a turn one win if you add it.

Type your deck name...I edited the description :P I know Mortal Combat can’t cause a win by the end of the first turn (but plausabily set up for turn two). The first turn chance at winning lies with Disciple of the Vault(s) working with Skullclamp – not likely, I know. Just throwing it out there :P Thanks for reminding me about Ad Nauseam! I forgot that existed.
Doesnt win with mortal combat, but thought it'd be fun to mention immortal servitude and exsanguinate would be fun with this deck setup. Draw all your 0 drops with skullclamp, bring them all back with immortal servitude sac them all with ashnods alter and cast exsanguinate for huge life lose and gain. Chances are you'll have disciple of the vault out for that extra life lose with it =p
I might throw Immortal Servitude in their reguardless of how the deck changes, that's just a funny moment I wouldn't want to miss!
yea, it will keep your combo going even if you hit a wall and dont have any more creatures in your hand and you're not at 20 yet in your graveyard
My thoughts to continue with this theme and help out.Remove the Crimsons and Replace with >>>Add Dryad Arbor x 4 (0 casting cost) adds one green mana to pool and is a 1/1 creature. (5 dollar card)Add One more Ad Nausems.Remove the Imortal servitudes. The goal of this deck is for mortal combat right? You will have to cycle thru about 90% of your deck to get the 20/26 creatures needed. If you bring them back it will only make it harder.Remove the Mana Ramps (Dark ritual and Culling the weak.) All your creature Cards cost 0-1 Mana. Replace them with swamps and Draw Card Mechanics. IE Slate of Ancestry Costs 4 mana. Stays on the field. Draw a card for each creature you control. YOU HAVE TO CYCLE THRU YOUR DECK FOR MORTAL KOMBAT!!!! Helll even throw back in the crimsons to replace these mana so you only have to cycle through half your deck.LAST THING! For fun since your into that. Instead of Immortal Servitude. Play a Gensis Chamber. 2 Colorles Mana Cost. Stays out on Field. When ever you play a creature generate a 1/1 Myr Artifact Token. Which would go just aweome with Disciple of Vault./ SkullClamp/ Ashnod Altar/ and Slate of Ancestory (draw a card for each creature you controL)Those are just my thoughts. I run a skull Clamp in one deck. Take what you want out of that! ^_^
I like the imput; it's good stuff! Esp. Genesis Chamber! It's funny how you can forget about cards, you know? Thanks for the ideas, I'll work them in slowly
So, you want to pull Mortal Combat win with 26 creatures? Meaning you have to go through 80% of your deck?... You need both Skullclamp and Altar to be able to run steadily through your deck. Still, you have so many guys Skullclamp doesnt kill. It can work sometimes, but you desperately need either Skullclamp or Ad Nauseam with mana instants in an opening hand. Still, Ad Nauseam will hurt very much, maybe you can try Blood Artist instead of Disciple. Also I would suggest 2 more Kobolds instead of Immortal Servitude. And one last question, how are you gonna protect yourself from Tormods Crypt and similar grave-hate?
Mortal Combat is the goal yes, but there is a secondary win condition. Immortal Servitude is in the deck simply to deal with my shuffle stonewalling me; it's a "just in case" card that can support dealing damage from creature death or Skullclamp/Altar. Great point with Bloodartist! I'll likely end up using a combination of the two. I'm not sure yet. Lastly, I'm foolishly banking on my opponent not putting Tormod's Crypt in their deck, but if they do, I will have to rely on my secondary win strategy.
His Ashnods Altar would kill his creatures if skull clamps +1/-1 ability did not. Also the Genesis chamber would generate your oppenent artifact creature which if they died your Disciple of vault would still come into play and work for you.
Very good deck. You must just hope that your opponent doesn't have time to play Rest in Peace.+1 like from me.
Thank you Mr. Warlord! May you one day reach 1 million budget decks (I like your style).
Hahahaha! That would be awesome...Thanks, buddy.
take out the wall and marauder 4 kobolds
I originally had them in to activate Disciple of the Vault, while working towards getting twenty creatures into the graveyard. Your comment got me thinking about their value after the changes that have been made and I did take them out, but not just for kobolds. Thanks for the input!
I know its an odd option but what about bargain as a draw engine ... though you would need to keep the rituals and maybe add in a Tudor?
Unless I am in the wrong format lol and I think it is currently restricted/banned so I don't know lol
(If you aren't referring to Yawgmoth's Bargain, correct me)It is a good card for sure; however, so many of the cards in this deck are so cheap that Ad Nauseam cost less life. After taking out one card (to account for Ad Nauseam/Yawgmoth's Bargain), there are only 13 cards that would cost less life to draw, while 32 cards in the deck have a 0 cost. There isn't a format issue really, I would play it as a casual deck.
Wicked Deck im definitely going to have to build it and try it good job!
If/when you do, please let me know about it! Different decks work different in different circles.
diabolic intent offers a quick and easy way to get mortal kombat into your hand, seeing as you have so many tasty creatures to sacrifice :)
Sideboarded, that's a good point.
For anyone who is interested, I made a second deck in this theme: http://www.mtgvault.com/spudshaver/decks/skullcombat-v2-bug/ Thanks to everyone for contributing to this build and making it all it could be!
Fun deck! I'm impressed with ad nauseam being used in such a cool manner. Goodluck!
