Deck discussion for Dear-Neath Experience

What would you say if your opponent plays karn and keeps restarting the game?

tell me the chance of him being up against Karn :) there's always decks that will just outrightly beat some other deck, only way for him to be able to win vs Karn is if he sideboards something against him.

Well against a karn deck they wouldn't be getting it 24/7 so it should be fine. To be honest, I should worry more about Burn...

would fortune thief and immolating souleater create an infinite combo?

0
Posted 19 December 2013 at 16:42

no, you cant pay two life if you have only one life. if it said lose two life then it would work.

0
Posted 19 December 2013 at 16:44

It wouldn't sadly, but I use fortune thief as a safety net for the immolator combo

i say sideboard litch mirror for a saftey precaution against global life drain or upkeep damage decks

I use Fortune thief as my safeguard against things like that

Fortune Thief won't save you against drain...

But you lose life which means damage? right? How could that not count as a form of damage?

0
Posted 19 December 2013 at 21:51

Loss of Life and Damage are not the same thing

0

Just seems like they should be though lol

0

Damage qualifies as loss of life but Life Loss isn't inherently damage.

very cool concept but i would expect more burn with the bridge so you can empty your hand either damaging your opponent or yourself and then they cant attack you

0
Posted 19 December 2013 at 17:05

I would but I don't need to control their creature limits when I have 19 fogs.

0
Posted 19 December 2013 at 18:41

Then why the overly expensive artifacts controlling what creatures they can use? Just a thought. I mean, it's beneficial to have the burn, I think, over the attacker limits because, like headhunter said, it's multipurpose, yeah? Gives you removal, potential alternate win condition if it gets down to it, or can speed you toward your intended win condition. Or at least that's how I see it.

Everyone is offering different ways to play the deck and I can't fix it to meet everyone's wants, I have no problems with the deck now cause of the people I play with but if you and your group need burn, you can personally add it :)

Worship would work wonders in this deck with Fortune Thief. Consider adding a Lich's Mirror as a plan B ?

0
Posted 19 December 2013 at 17:21

You can add a lich's mirror in a personal sideboard but I don't prefer it for myself and that's not that bad of an idea for the deck. :)

worhip and angel's grace comes to mind :)

0
Posted 19 December 2013 at 17:26

I previously talked about Worship and thought it's a good idea for a sideboard card and same with angel's grace, but I don't like making sideboards cause it depends on mostly personal preference :)

why not add suture priest????

0

because it just sticks out like a sore thumb in this deck :/

0

Needs some player protection maybe. Ivory mask? Leyline of Sanctity?

0
Posted 19 December 2013 at 18:31

You can always add that to a personal sideboard but I don't need them personally with the people I play against.

4 Angel's Grace. Must include.

1

I personally don't want to run that card but if you want to run it then you can :)

0

I don't think you understand, Splooge. If you want this to work, you MUST use Angel's Grace. It will save your ass soooooo many times.

0
Posted 19 December 2013 at 21:29

I agree Angel's Grace is an arse-whuppin card, especially here. But I'm sure you have your reasons not to use it.

0
Posted 19 December 2013 at 21:45

I don't need it to work lol It's just a card I PERSONALLY don't need. I've explained that before.

0

Here's the scenario: You have Immolating Souleater and Near-Death Experience out. "End of turn I'll activate Immolating to put my life at one"

Opponent: "Lightning bolt you in response."

You lose.

Now, if you played Angel's Grace, you would just win automatically. As a matter of fact, you can just win the game automatically if you have it in hand and Near Death Experience out. Your opponent literally cannot kill you because you just cast it and win the following turn.

0

I put it in my sideboard for this reason now :) Thanks!

0
Posted 20 December 2013 at 03:18

I still don't understand why it's not maindeck. You literally just win the game if you have it in your hand with Near Death Experience out. It doesn't matter what creatures are out, what spells your opponent is playing, you just win.

Also add Idyllic Tutor in place of Academy Rector and it becomes Modern legal. The deck can't compete in a format like legacy.

0

He'd have to replace crawlspace as well to make it modern legal

0

Just giving my advice. I'm 100% confident that my comment would make the deck better, and I don't consider a deck being good or bad being an issue of personal preference.

0

Gotcha gotcha :)

0
Posted 20 December 2013 at 17:46

Actually it is an issue of personal preference. Because everyone's play group is different. The guy says he doesn't need those cards because his play group doesn't play in a way to make him need them. I don't put a lot of Artifact/ Enchantment removal in my decks because my play group isn't so focused on those. Does that make my deck bad ? Against some, yes ... Against my friends ? Not until they decide to build something to counter me.

Nice. I had one of these before i deleted most of my decks. Now thanks to you man, dude, I'm going to get one of these. But I will have Angel's Grace though. Keep up your good work man.

0

No problem man! :D and Everyone runs Angel's Grace but I personally don't run it due to it not being of value for the people I play with lol

0

Angel's Grace and Isochron Scepter could definitely find a home in here. Isochron Scepter pairs up with one of your literally SIXTEEN damage-preventing instants.

0

The isochron scepter doesn't sound bad but I still don't need Angel's Grace, I'm getting kinda tired of people telling me .-.

Oblivion Ring your Near-Death Experience, cast Worldfire, Win.

0
Posted 19 December 2013 at 23:53

I could do that, but that takes a LONG time to set up even without people throwing wrenches in your plans

0
Posted 20 December 2013 at 02:33

There's also Nightmare Orgg, but it's kinda bad.

0
Posted 20 December 2013 at 06:22

Or Jhoira, but you'd have to add blue. You would just suspend Woldfire the first turn you can with her, then on the next turn, you suspend Near Death Experience.

Worldfire comes into play and blows everything up, but then Near Death comes into play and you win instant. They have no mana, creatures, no anything.

City of Brass is almost as good as Battlefield Forge for this deck.

0

I know but the other one can be used without burning life also.

0
Posted 20 December 2013 at 02:34

Yep, that's the "almost as good" part. Don't you normally want to be burning life though? If that's your plan you could run both.

0
Posted 20 December 2013 at 02:46

I do want to burn life but if I need my life at a certain marker for combing I'd rather have Forge. Plus it's better in my opinion because I only run 2 colors and the time I may not need to burn my life is the time I could use just vanilla mana.

Isn't that pretty much the same thing? lol

0

A fine question! For example: it is your upkeep, you have one life and are smiling with thoughts of victory. You open your mouth to share the great news and a little Appentice Mage pings you for one point (bummer). Ethereal Haze includes "non combat damage".
