Deck Description

I had a hard time finding a deck that effectively used Storm the Vault that was NOT Commander/EDH, so I went and built a non-Commander one myself.

This deck absolutely abuses Vault of Catlacan (or Tolarian Academy, if you feel like straining your wallet some more). Create tons of artifacts, create massive creatures, and do massive damage.

How to Play

The deck is rather simple.

If you can, quickly spam down block fuel like Memnite and Ornithopter to protect yourself until you get your combo set up. Storm the Vault, THopter Spy Network, and Efficient Construction should all hit the field as soon as possible. Cards like Darksteel Relic and other zero-drops will quickly cause Storm the Vault to transform a standard equivalent of a Tolarian Academy (Vault of Catlacan to be exact). Now get Everflowing Chalice to hit the field using Vault of Catlacan. Devoting all of the Vault's mana should help Everflowing Chalice enter with a massive amount of charge counters on it.

Now, on your next turn, devote the mana generated by Vault of Catlacan and Everflowing Chalice to a Hangarback Walker. Congratulations, a massive creature will have been created and now it is time to stomp some opponents. If Hangarback Walker dies for any reason (such as spot removal), just cast Welding Sparks after all the thopters are created. Then, use Academy Ruins to put the Hangarback Walker on top of your library to put it out again the next turn.

Alternatively, you could do the same with a Walking Ballista, then remove all +1/+1 counters from it to deal large amounts of damage to your opponent. Then, use Academy Ruins to put the Walking Ballista back on top of your library to do it again the next turn.

Shifting Wall is also provided in case you just cannot draw a Hangarback Walker or a Walking Ballista, or if you need a big defender creature (as both Hangarback Walker and Walking Ballista cost XX instead of X).
