Maybe add some Ghost Quarter to force your opponent to search their library and Archive Trap, which would then cost 0...

I like this build, but I agree with some of the comments above. Why have the quest in there? If you ran Omnath, that would be one thing, personally I think you could get more value (and be WAY more annoying!!!) with a spell like Triumph of the Hordes. I have definitely gotten some ideas for my elf deck from your build. I love the Magistrate, Mr. Perfect and the Archers. I'm going to add them all to my elf deck. I think Magistrate with Joraga Warcaller is just SICK!!! I would actually add another Magistrate, I like him so much with the Warcaller. All in all, a quality build. Feel free to check out some of my decks if you want. I know I'm going to look over some of your other decks when I have some more free time. Cheers! :)
I agree with the comments so far. 29 "ping" effects may be a bit much! :) You should definitely look to exploit these "pings' for their full potential. Curiosity is a great idea. It will lower the curve, which you should consider...you have an inordinate number of 3-drops, so look at some 1 and 2 CMC spells to replace some of the 3's. I would also consider adding a second Niv-Mizzet. You definitely don't want to over-do it on the legends, but you want to see him. In looking to maximize the creature effects I'd look at some of the equipment out there. Basilisk Collar and Grafted Exoskeleton come to mind. With Basilisk Collar you could kill any creature, regardless of toughness And with Grafted Exoskeleton you effectively cut your opponents life in half! Good Luck! I love that you got back in after some time away. That was my story too, a few years ago, so I can relate. Have fun with it. And feel free to look at any of my decks for ideas, or just for a laugh! :)
IDK, I guess there's a couple reasons. I really like the number 63. I like Numerology. I won't get into the whole thing, sufice it to say I just really like that number. In this modern era of "play" sleeves, most people pile shuffle, in addition to "mash" shuffling, and it so happens that 63 is nicely divisible by 7. Again, I really like the number 7. (part of the whole 63 thing, too...) So, when I pile shuffle, I make 7 piles and it all works out nice and even. It also harkens back to my early days of playing Magic... the Antiquities, Legends, the Dark, etc. era. And back then we all built 20/40, lands/spells. I like the idea of having more mana, but I'm also greedy for those 40 spells! Every once in a while I build to 60. I know that this is THE number. But, I don't play tourneys outside of some FNM. I mostly play for fun. So... 63 is the number i build to. It's funny... no one ever asked me that before! Hope i don't sound too nuts!! :)
My esteemed colleague, the great and omniscient Nyz is of course 100% correct! There is also one other reason I run those fetch-lands. It thins the deck of mana, increasing the odds of drawing a relevant spell later in the game. And, as my man pointed out, early game it ensures a landfall for Rest for the Weary. Result: -1 for the fetch, +8 for a 2 CMC spell. Net gain...+7. I'll do that trade all day! And with Admonition Angel, well... it's almost unfair to even be allowed to have fetch-lands! So, again, I'll trade 1 life to exile your annoying...whatever, all day long! As for the Ranger of Eos, I might consider adding those in. That's acutally a great idea...and I think I have a couple of RoE without a home... I'll have to think about that. I don't know if I would take out the Baneslayers though. I just really like them!
I prefer Sign in Blood because it can be used to make your opponent draw 2 and take the damage, starting the loop...
Yeah, even though the rats have that little caveat, EDH rules supersede that. Check this deck to see a vintage Relentless Rat deck... http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=351699
Wow. How very NOT helpful of you! Thanks for taking time out of what clearly is a very busy schedule to drop that little gem on me! Feel better now? Got it out of your system? ...probably not, Douche Vader...
Oh how I loathe this deck! Just looking at it makes me want to punch a baby!
You know what goes great with Undying? Black Sun's Zenith! The ruling on +1/+1 and -1/-1 counters on the same creature is that they cancel each other out. With Black Sun's Zenith you could sweep the board and all of your Undying creatures that had +1/+1 counters on them would all lose those counters before they went to the graveyard and therefore regain their Undying ability. Since you are running black, it should be a great fit. Check out some of my decks if you have some time to kill...
I have a similar deck, and Nihil Spellbomb is also a problem. Not to mention Tormod's Crypt is coming back in M13... Oh well, in the meantime these decks are fun to play! Mine only runs 3 colors. Check it out if you have a minute. http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=351329
Love this deck! I'm gonna use it to abuse my friends!! Thanks for posting it. I have a few decks posted if you wanna check them out, but no shameless self-promotion here... just really, really like this list.
Thanks for the suggestions. I always appreciate input. :Like I said, I won't begin a game with this deck without at lieast one half of the combo in my opening hand, no matter the mulligans it takes. Also, I'm just cruel! I choose to use my burn as purly control while I wait for the second card! >) So, any time I played with this deck, if I won it was always with the combo. It's just more fun!!! As for the white, I'm actually cosidering bolstering the white with some tutor effects. And with no creatures Day of Judgment is esential, unless I replace it with Damnation (which I don't have). And with fetch-lands it's pretty easy to fix for three colors.
your list. (stupid computer sending half a stinkin' message!!! ARGGH!!)
Thanks for the suggestions. I would consider adding a tutor, but probably Demonic Tutor (I'm not limited to a format...vintage, if anything). I played this deck quite a bit, multi-player mostly, and between the direct damage, o rings and DoJ I have always been able to wait for the combo. I mean, with this type of deck I won't start the game without at least one part of the combo in my opening hand, no matter how many mulligans it takes. Otherwise, what's the point, really? I may consider adding a tutor or two, but like I said, probably Demonic Tutor, Enlightened Tutor, Idyllic Tutor. All of which are relevent to this deck, and cost less than Diabolic Tutor. As far as Sanguine Bond, I LOVE LOVE LOVE that card! It's currently in an older vamp deck I have, but when I saw Exquisite Blood i felt the same way about it as you....it's destiny! I just haven't had the time to construct that deck, but I like your build a lot! I might consider putting something like that together, now that I've taken a look at
(You must be curious as to how this deck has SO MANY "likes" literallly overnight...?)
