Deck Description

Hey! thanks for taking the time to look at my deck!

The purpose of the deck is to take out your opponent by controlling the field, then taking them out with awesome creatures, or with the discard type cards I based the deck around.

The discard reasoning is that as a lot of games go on, you find both people handless or near so, so I made this deck play off forcing your opponent to discard and take damage for not having a hand.

Sideboard: I have no idea what to actually have in there. I really need help with it. (especially for going against control)

This deck is made up of the cards I currently have (for the most part) which is why you see a lack of shock lands.

I would really appreciate any comments on how to improve the deck! constructive criticism is welcome! thanks guys!

Deck discussion for Standard Midrange/Discard

Looks good for the main board you might throw in some debt to the deathless to make the game go a little quicker and gain some life at the same time.

Where are your thoughtseizes? If you play black you should be running them.

I would love to run thoughtseizes, however this being a representation of what I currently have, I didn't put any in. What would you suggest replacing them with?

Replace Sphere of Safety with them in the sideboard- so you can add them in as you get them whereas you might not be using Sphere of Safety with so much burn removal.

Take out the shrikeing afflictions. They don't do anything unless you are already winning. It's a win more card because it means you rakdos charmed or used sire of insanity. Either way they are already dead. But if you are losing and draw it, it's a useless card unlike a thoughtseize that would let you see what their best cards are and take it out.

He could move Shrieking Affliction to the sideboard if he is playing against reanimator. Puts them on a clock even if they can push out creatures.

Shrieking affliction actually has helped me with quite a few races. Playing rakdos return on your opponent does not necessarily mean your winning, and the fact that per shrieking on the field, thats 6 additional damage post return, really helps. I see what you mean by it being a possible dead draw too though. my problem right now is that I honestly can't run thought seizures. . . . their about $80 above what I can spend right now. . . so if you have any other suggestions for cards besides it, those I will through main board over shrieking affliction pretty easily. Thank you guys for your input! this is helping me a lot!

and System Snake, just wondering, what do you mean by your reanimator comment?

Some people benefit from discarding cards, and they have the ability to topdeck into bringing back large creatures from the graveyard that are hard to deal with when you have no hand. The shrieking affliction will kill them when your creatures cannot.

You could use duress until you can get thoughtseizes then just swap em around as you see fit, theyre pretty similar and hopefully wont mess with your mana while still providing the hand management

4x Thoughtseize in the sideboard? They are coming up in the new set and they can force out a counterspell. Tyramet, the Murder King is a great card to run in Midrange and also Whip of Erebos has creature recursion from your own graveyard. Good combo potential with the discarding, and the lifelink goes hand-in-hand with the Blood Baron. Probably instead of Underworld Connections you should run Whip of Erebos and instead of Magma Jet maybe Tyramet? Just a few recommendations. Other than that, great deck!

Thanks for the recommendations! my question about tymaret is that since all the creatures I'm running are large, very effective creatures, would tymaret and all his sacking really be a good for the deck?

I know that Whip of Erebos is a better recommendation, just that Tymaret is a 2 drop and evens out the mana curve, and you can sac creatures you bring back with Whip of Erebos. Tymaret functions best with Act of Treason and the Whip which brings back a creature temporarily. I also heavily recommend atleast one of the shock B/R and B/W lands those will fix your mana curve a bit.

In my opinion 4 slaughter games side boarded is to many. with the amount of rakdo's return your running you at most need 2. Also anger of the gods is only good against specific decks so it should be in the sideboard because it does nothing against another midrange deck where chained to the rocks would be rally good against both. i would recommend 2-3 read the bones and add in land over tem because you will probably be looking for land anyways. Also over arrest you should run doom blade or ultimate price and I really like the whip suggestion and think about desecration demon.

Love this deck! I run a similar deck utilizing Sire of Insanity and it works great. Shrieking Affliction is an awesome combo with Sire. I've won many games using this very combo.

Off topic. .. here's my most recent concoction. Would love your input.
