Fast, suicidal black creatures. White lifelinkers to compensate. B/W disruption and destruction. This deck is modeled on a variation of a black deck that I have been playing for a very long time (see Old School Fast Black for a less suicidal version of that deck.) The original deck incorporates Flesh Reaver, Carnophage, and Hatred in a reckless onslaught of suicidal attrition. Its major weaknesses have been addressed with the addition of white, and very little of the original deck concept is lost. In fact, the deck functions much the same, with a few notable exceptions: - Vindicate allows me to deal with problem enchantments and artifacts. It's also fun as a mana source eradicator, and it even continues the tradition of creaturekill to allow my Flesh Reaver through. The utility of this card really can't be overstated. - Edge of the Divinity makes Nip a beast. And it is still an Unholy Strength to my suicide beaters. - Divinity of Pride tempers the late game fantastically! Original deck frequently had problems here due to early game suicide tactics and a shortage of large or flying creatures. With a Bad Moon in play, Divinity of Pride really shines. General deck strategy: Deploy creatures as fast as possible and beat the opponent into the ground before he can raise a suitable defense. Ridiculous starting hands: - Any 1 cast creature, Hatred, Dark Ritual x 2. Likely turn two win. - Nip Gwyllion, Dark Ritual, Edge of the Divinity x 2. First turn 7/7 lifelink. Ouch. - Flesh Reaver, Nip Gwyllion, Dark Ritual, Edge of the Divinity (cast Edge on turn two before the attack phase.) Turn two attack for 8, and Nip offsets the damage you take from the Reaver. Even without Edge, Nip offsets the Reaver nicely for a total of five damage to your opponent and only three damage to you. - Of course there's always this classic, and my personal favorite: turn one Dark Ritual for Hypnotic Specter. Sideboard: - Additional creaturekill for creature decks. - Less suicidal creatures to replace Flesh Reaver and Hatred if I am facing a burn deck. Note they are B/W to benefit from Edge. - Extirpate. No explanation needed.
