so ob-nixilis has a few downsides. ---------------------------------------------------- 1. as a creature he is far more susceptible to kill spells and bounces than valakut 2. he costs mana to put out, making him much weaker than anticipated (esp to bounces) 3. he requires a 2 black mana, meaning that you have to run birds, verdants, and cobras (so also other tap-sac's then) 4. his effect is "loss of life," not damage, meaning it cannot attack plainswalkers 5. while getting 2 or 3 valakuts out is easy, getting 2 - 3 obnixilis is hard, because he has a mana cost 6. a single bolt wipes him out before he gains counters ---------------------------------------------------- he also has some upsides, though ---------------------------------------------------- 1. he's cheaper $ wise 2. he grows in strength (often being more than just a 12/12) 3. BG is a less common color combination, making it less susceptible to people's SB 4. being black, you are open to having a much cooler SB than red offers 5. you have the ability to play high mana cost black cards, which are much better than high mana cost black cards (i prefer grave titan over inferno, but maybe that's just me, but there are plenty of other awesome black cards to play! :)
