Deck Description

Basic Blue Mill Deck splashed with a bit of Black. I've used this successfully several times. Looking for suggestions for a sideboard and improvements to the deck. This deck is designed for straight mill, hence the lack of creatures.

How to Play

The concept is simple. Get your creatures out quick as your blockers. Counter anything that would destroy your creatures, or any big creatures that you can't stop with Fog Bank. Grind at your opponents library. Attack only for Cypher.

Deck discussion for A Mill Deck that Works

you could use the new divination that has one black mana to make them mill two if you wanted.

I believe the card you are talking about is Pilfered Plans. I thought about it, however if I do, I would need to add more black mana to the deck, and I want to avoid turning this into a full-out Dimir deck. It definitely would be a great replacement for Divination, and I may try it. But I'm concerned with the lack of and/or addition of Black Mana to the deck.

After your comment, I started thinking about an all black sideboard with creatures, might throw it there.

that's cool. I would also suggest some value black removal. On that line of thought, Far // Away as a one of would be sick

I added Far // Away along with a few other cards. Deck seems to be working much better. I've actually beat my Boros aggro deck with it a few times.

Youre already running a lot of black mana producing lands for 4 measly {B} symbols, so i would swap divinations out for Pilfered Plans.

If youre worried about that being too much, take out the mind grinds. Ive found it to be rather underwhelming, with a poor mana to mill ratio.

Scattering Arc is a very bad counter, for 4 i would like at least a hard counter. Just 2 more cancels or maybe dissipates are a better investment.

kmk is right, you should look at more removal than just counter. I would swap the Saving Grasp for unsummon, you never flashback the Grasp anyway so Unsummon is just more utility.

For a creature sideboard, i would include deathtouchers like Vampire Nighthawk and Typhoid Rats (Possibly Thrill-kill assassin) to halt aggro in its tracks. throw in some more swamps/dual lands for the added black and youve got a sideboard.
