Sire of wits

by SilverTabby on 01 December 2010

Main Deck (60 cards)

Sideboard (300 cards)

Sorceries (100)

Submit a list of cards below to bulk import them all into your sideboard. Post one card per line using a format like "4x Birds of Paradise" or "1 Blaze", you can even enter just the card name by itself like "Wrath of God" for single cards.

Deck Description

Battle of wits never said that you had to start the game with 200 cards in your library... Enter Ulamog's Spawn Sire

use Spawn Sire's ultimate; Day of Judgment; shuffle your new 300+ card graveyard into your library; battle of wits for the win.

Because of the whole takes 30 colorless mana to cast spawn sire + his ultimate, I felt the best/fastest way to do this was via an infinite mana combo - in this case wind zendikon + high tide + freed from the real

note: this deck will not work at all in "sanctioned" tournaments because you can only use Spawn Sire's ability on your side board in "sanctioned" tournaments . Then again, you're playing a Battle of Wits deck in a tournament...

--------------------------------update 12/2/10-------------------------
I sped up the deck by switching the myr infinite mana combo with wind zendikon + high Tide + Freed from the Real = reduce average infinite time from 5-6 turns to 3-4 turns, while also reducing the number of cards needed to pull it off

also changed:
removed: 2 quests,2 days4 tutors
added: a lot of draw cards for use with infinite mana combo
all non islands --> island

added: Gemstone Array and Spell Burst to convert --> white for Day and to store mana to use to counter everything my opponents do until my next upkeep

Deck discussion for Sire of wits

i suppose it does say any number of eldrazi you own from outside the game doesnt it then yea that would work or you could just spawnsire ultimate and swing and win with the 100+ annihilator

Where's the fun in that?

also i would add training grounds for the spawnsire ultimate incase they get rid of your mana myr. 2 training grounds + spawnsire = 1 mana 2 eldrazi sac 1 of those and get 2 more sac 1 and get 2 more= infinite eldrazi spawn for infinite mana for his ultimate ability

<_<

Oh damn. Aside from my seething hatred of all things Myr, and the fact that this deck would get WHOMPED! by an extraction deck (all Wits decks do, extraction is their biggest weakness), this is probably one of the "better" Wits decks I've seen. It's easily the most creative.

The only two infinite mana combos I could think of at the time were

-sprout swarm + mana echos OR intruder alarm
and
-myrs

I didn't want to splash a third (and possibly fourth) color/ was too lazy to do so. Myrs it is.

No more Myrs. Happy?

I don't like myrs either, I try to only use them as a last resort when I can't think of anything else

you may also want to consider some counter power just a thought

I'm fairly certain that Spawnsire's ability only targets Eldrazi spells from your sideboard, not just laying aside....

This is the only ruling I found on that subject:

"In a casual game, the cards you cast from outside the game come from your personal collection. In a sanctioned event, those cards must come from your sideboard. Note that you can't cast cards from exile this way; exile is a zone in the game."

This deck is not intended for "sanctioned" events, so go nuts :D

Definitely creative, though in this case I see Battle of Wits as more of a fallback for when they Wrath or Judgment your army before you get a chance to swing for all that damage. Training Grounds is a great addition, as mentioned above. If you did go with a third color, I'd suggest red for the Splinter Twin, Intruder Alarm combo. Actually, just throw in some red mana myrs (Iron Myrs I think?) and perhaps a mountain (since you have the search lands) or two and you would be good to go.

I'd drop a few Day of Judgments and probably all 4 Quest for Ancient Secrets to make room for the above mentioned cards, then trade out some of the mana myr (Palladium) for the red mana myr.

Nice deck!

I took everyone's feedback and did my best to make some improvements

Did I miss something (other than Training Grounds)?

Given that this is so ubercasual... just proxy up a couple hundred emrakuls and the legend rule will do the work of day of judgement. Hell, just write "three hundred emrakuls" on a block of wood. If anyone complains, tell them "okay, I'll just bring out 1 emrakul and three hundred crushers instead".
