This has to be my favorite samurai that I never use! The EDH format looks fun for this. Please give feedback! I could use the help! This deck is designed to participate in a 5 person edh game. Each deck is mono-colored and this in the black entry. The goal is to make all 5 decks balanced with each other with maximum casual fun. Therefore there is no "Protection from X", no outright color-hosers (i.e anarchy, deathgrip, karma etc), no game lock combos, no land destruction, no discard spells. In this game format the win condition is to eliminate the opposition colors. For this deck, green and white are the enemies and red and blue are friendly to the black, but opposed to each other. This means that attacks cannot be declared on allies, nor can direct damage be leveled at allies. All other spells are fair game, though some are "unfun" and eliminated. Single card winners are eliminated. There is a fair amount of politics and clever use and timing of spells win.
The notion of this deck is to kill creatures and get double use from instants using Toshiro. Dead creatures become my creatures. Generating tokens and card/permanent advantage help this deck roll over the opposition. Instants can be sneaky and timing is everything. Recurring zombies help keep my side of the board stocked. Deathtouch keeps enemy at bay and lifelink helps keep me around (and pay for graveborn muse). I stock my graveyard with instants and build my mana-base. I play defensively at first, discouraging aggression by spot removal ("...see what a bad idea to attack me!").

Toshiro is cool because, when people think of mono-black Commander, they're thinking "Grave Pact, the Deck". Big Mana, swamps matter, and sacrificing creatures for profit - couldn't ask for a more over-used and generic concept. You know - you commented on my Sahr list. Toshiro has you doing something different.

Thanks for your insight! I agree with everything you just said. I suspect this deck is far from optimized, but the card list is 100% cards I already have. Thanks again for weighing in!
+1 upvote for you.
As far as optimizing goes, when I built a list, it was all instant speed kill-spells. It was pretty much every CMC2 "Destroy target non-x, non-y and non-z creature" that they ever printed. I think I would've been better off having a list of useful instants and supply the killing via recurring effects like Smokestack or something.
That would be interesting and perhaps less linear than the many variations of the destroy a creature theme. This deck has its hands full though with White and Green as its opponents. Very creature heavy. Smokestack would be killer, especially with recurring characters and cards to loot someone's graveyard. Nice grab, by the way. Smokestack is from all the way back in the Urza block, I think.
