This is a primer for anyone who wants to play a strong boros deck. In EDH there are few good Red/White commanders. Anya is a great pick for people who want something different from commanders like Tajic or Gisela.
Anya is a win-more general. You don't normally want to play her unless you're currently winning the game or at least have the strongest board position. She can be played early, but you'll need to find ways for her to stick around. The Cheater:Heartless Hidestugu is a MUST in this deck. It literally can turn Anya from a 4/4 to a 13/13 (if it's a 4 player game), with one activation. Furthermore if you can give him lifelink, you pretty much set yourself up to win.Free Damage:Akoum Hellkite, Balefire Liege, Chalice of Life, Purphoros ValakutThese cards offer free damage for basic game actions. Purphoros is obviously the best because he hits all opponents, but the other three are still decent enough to make a difference within 2 or 3 turns. Chalice is amazing if you can flip it, since you can chunk your opponents for 5 life a turn.Game Changers: (It's not cheating if it's printed on the cards)Blessed Wind, Reverse the Sands, Soul Conduit These cards allow you to manipulate life totals. In situations where your opponents have more life than you, these can make a shitty situation fantastic. Soul Conduit is awesome because it is an artifact and can stick around for multiple uses. Blessed Wind is great for dealing with someone who has been busy gaining life.Redirectors:Spitemare, Stuffy DollThere is no better way to punish someone than using a blocker that does return damage. Also Spitemare is great because it can attack and usually goes unblocked or it eats a kill spell that could've been used againt a card that actually matters. Also you are playing red wich means you ARE playing Blasphemous Act (my vote for best board wipe of all time), and having it kill all the creatures AND deal 13 damage is insane! The Equalizer:Brion Stoutarm aka Tom BradyBrion has one of the best direct damage abilities ever designed. He flings and gains you life, for 1 red mana. Also when you need to go for a touchdown just throw a buffed up Anya and drink the tears of your opponents when the realize how much that hurts.Auto-Win:Celestial ConvergenceSometimes you need to win and you don't want to finish the game. Play Celestial Convergence and keep it alive long enough to get your win or tie. I mean it doesn't really matter if you get 2nd place, just don't be last. Also it may get blown up and that's okay it usually means someone wasted a spell on a 7 turn bomb.Punishing Everyone:Burning Earth, Manabarbs, Sulfuric VortexCards like Burning Earth and Manabarbs end games really, REALLY, quickley. This is great when you are able to slow play the table and then drop Anya on the board and swing out on someone who let their life drop too low. Sulfuric vortex stops life gain completely. This really shouldn't bother you since you'll be the one dishing out the most damage.Honorable Mentions:Assemble the Legion, Gratuitous Violence, Sword of War and PeaceAssemble the Legion is an amazing when combined with Purphoros and on it's own this card can build up an army with 4 turns. Gratuitous Violence is perfect combo piece for either Heartless or Brion. Granted you'll want Heartless to have lifelink so you don't kill yourself. Sword of War and Peace is awesome equipment that has a pretty good chance of ruining your opponent on hit.
