Deck Description

This deck revolves around using only merfolk creatures as well as a great deal of control.

This is the deck that has taken me the longest time to finish but it has the best pay off.

This deck is very heavy into control. Using spells such has Counterspell, Orims chant and Path to exile it can help me buy time until i get the creatures i need.

Aether Vial is a new addition to the deck. with the most expensive creature costing 3, it will only take me 3 turns to put enough counters on it to play any of my main creatures. Using merrow reejerys ability to tap and untap permanents can keep playing mefolk creatures and untap the vial every time

Merrow Reejery is a big part of this deck. Not only does he give my other merfolk +1/+1 but every time i play a merfolk spell i can tap or untap a permanent. this works well with the control aspect. ntaping lands also gives me more mana to counter spells or exile creatures.

Merfolk Sovereign is other great card in this deck. Just like merrow Reejery she gives my other merfolk +1/+1 and its not an expensive card to cast. Only cost 3 and with Stonybrook it can cost 2, or its free with aether vial. She 's great becasue by tapping her i can make target merfolk unblockable which is always a good thing

Sygg, River guide is a merfolk that always comes in handy when i need him. He has islandwalk which works if im playing another blue deck, but his big ability is giving merfolk protection from colors. This is very beneficial as i don't have to to tap him to use it. Just have to pay 2 (1 colorless and a white) and i can give all merflok protection from a certain color if i wanted to.

Isochron Scepter is a huge addition to this deck. Being able to imprint all my control spells as well as holy day. It increases my chances of winning exponentially.

Deck discussion for Merfolk Control

This is the most interesting and well thought out Merfolk deck I've seen yet, I'm definitely borrowing a couple of your ideas. Love the Vial+Reejery combo.

Little surprised you don't have any Lullmage Mentors, another 3 cost for your vial to get out for nothing then free counter-spells.

Also sygg can only protect 1 merfolk for every time you pay for that ability (you probably knew that).
