Deck Description

My first deck. It's a Dimir mill.
I'm new to MTG and a realised that I like to mill my opponent so I went to this deck, I only used cards in my collection, I didn't bought individual cards.
Obviously I'm open to suggestions, i'm a little newbie haha.
It's more like a "T2" deck as I don't have old cards, most of my collection is GTC, RTR and M13.

How to Play

I just do what I can, haha. It's a little slow to begin and usually I take few damages until the real mill starts.
Jace's Phantasm becomes really powerfull after a Mind Sculpt and a Paranoid Delusions as example, after I encode the Delusions on the Phantasm and it keeps milling the opponent everytime I make damages...
Wight of Precinct Six becomes really powerfull too, I use it as a blocker most of time.
Balustrade Spy has a good mill effect and it has flying so it's good with Paranoid Delusions too.
I like the Vampire Nighthawk's deathtouch it keeps big creatures away from my like points.
And last creature is Consuming Aberration, big big creature, but what I like the most about that card is the second capacity, perfect with every spells I have and cipher cards, when this card enters the battlefield, I know that my opponent is going to mill a lot especially if I have some flying creatures with Paranoid Delusions.

I had to put Jace, Memory Adept because it 0 ability is awesome and sometimes when I have a lack of cards I just use his +1 ability.

Other spells are basic mill stuff, when I want to draw more I use Thought Scour and when I want to counter Psychic Strike is pretty good.

That's it :)

Deck discussion for Dimir Mill (Magic newbie)

Seems pretty legit for a first timer deck.

I couldn't help noticing your use of Jace, Memory Adept. Many new players don't see the power of drawing a card - Good job!

Your overall idea seems great.
If I should say, what you need is control cards - mainly creature removal. I can recommend cards like Ultimate Price, Murder, Tribute to Hunger and Devour Flesh. All very cheap cards.
For more pricy cards that could improve your deck, lands like Watery Grave and Drowned Catacomb does a great card.
Consider the land Nephalia Drownyard. The noncolor may seem hard to trust, but i think you will get to love it :).

I too like Wight of Precinct Six, but you will most likely face one problem: Creatureless decks. I for example play Grixis Control. My deck contains 9 creatures all in all, and i often face decks with 4-6 creatures. I think you should sideboard it and find a better, overall alternative.

I hope you can use my comments for something, and have fun driving your opposing planeswalkers insane xD

Thank you for your comment :)
I got plenty of Murder in my collection so it's not a problem.
I still have a empty sideboard so I take any suggestions and I look what I can add or not :)
About non-basic lands, Watery Grave is around €10 so it's a little expensive but, maybe ... :p Drowned Catacomb is less "wallet destructive" I'll probably take a look :p

You should trace down a couple of "sewer nemesis" from some of the planeswalker series.

Also for mill competitive in modern or legacy, check out my page and look carefully at my "current" decks.

During the last weekend I ranked as number 29 at a tournament with 86 players, so mill CAN be competitive ;D

Oh yeah Grisly Spectacle looks very nice, it's like a murder but with a mill ability (cost one more too). Thanks ;)

Good to hear that wickeddarkman :D

If you can afford it, Glimpse the Unthinkable is the ultimate mill card

one relatively cheap card that i did enjoy playing in a mill deck was Hedron Crab.
It makes a good blocker for the first few turns and can help a lot with the mill system.
On the defense side, some propaganda can really help you survive longer, because don't forget that a mill deck is a race against the clock, so try to slow down your opponent.
Surgical Extraction or Extirpate can do wonders to control the big cards of your opponent.

If it's only your first deck, i can't wait to see what you will come next, because you seem to have a good analysis of the system. Congrats!
