Deck Description

I've used the Bubbling Cauldron in a few deck designs already - decks that had a tendency to make many token creatures as a consumable resource, and the Cauldron was just one more way to consume them for my benefit. Make a token, sack a token, get 4 life ... a nice option, in itself.

But, there's that bit about Festering Newts. And the Newts have the bit about the Bogbrew Witch, and that in turn makes getting the Newts and Cauldrons out much easier, and ...

... the flaw was that you could only have four Newts in a deck. So, I started thinking of ways to make more Newts, or else, bring back the Newts after I "tossed them in the soup", as it were.

Best I've found yet the Soul Foundry. Imprint a Newt on it, and it's an endless Newt-dispenser. ENDLESS, I tell you. Tap {1}, tap the Foundry, get a Newt, tap {1}, tap the Cauldron, _bad things happen to other people_, and you get a bowl of yummy Newt soup for +4 (or more) life. :D

Oh, and meanwhile, Grave Pact (props to ShackledAngel, see comments below) exacerbates the penalties the opponent takes. Potentially, if I sacrifice a Newt to the Cauldron:

> a target creature takes -4/-4 until end of the turn;
> each other player in the game is forced to sacrifice a creature;
> each opponent loses 4 life;
> you gain life equal to the total lost in the above step;

How to Play

Should be self-explanatory: get the Bogbrew Witch and Bubbling Cauldron into play. Then get a Festering Newt into play, preferably with a Soul Foundry.

Make newt, Cauldron Newt, deal damage, gain life, possibly kill 1+ enemy creatures. All for 2 mana per turn - 1 for the Foundry, 1 for the Cauldron.

Deck discussion for X-35: Toil and Trouble

LMAO My fiance and I were just talking about a Bogbrew deck named Bubble Bubble, Toil and Trouble. Nice!

Some cards to possibly look at...

Blood Artist
Zulaport Cutthroat
Grave Pact
Master Necromancer
Ogre Slumlord

Thanks, I'll give those cards a look. :)

EDIT: in fact, [Grave Pact] does exactly what I wanted the [Butcher of Malakir] for, and costs half as much, improving the mana curve quite nicely. Thanks!!
