Deck discussion for Not many be using Niv EDH

I like your theme of drawing excess cards to cause Niv- Mizzik damage, but I think you need more ways to take advantage of the cards in your graveyard beyond Archmage Ascension coming on line. Possibly add Past in Flames, Recoup, or Bosium Strip to allow for card reuse. Maybe just some added cards with flashback will help in a ddition to Faithless looting. Devil's Play? Good Luck in Edh it is truly a great format.

Hey, thanks for the suggestions! I added all four of those cards, since, yeah, it makes sense. It also helps to even out my devotion of red and blue. I'm looking forward to EDH!

Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind enchanted with Curiosity; or Ophidian Eye turns Niv-Mizzet's damage for drawing into a machine-gun with an amount of damage equal to the number of cards left in your library. And because he's your Commander, you only need to deal 21 damage to each player, so 70+ cards is more than enough to win.

Thanks for the ideas! I like the idea of ramping up Niv yeah, but doesn't the 21 damage dealt have to be direct combat damage? I think I'd be using time and mana to bring Niv on the field for 2+ each time, rather than using each turn to tap and draw another card. I can see it working as long as there are no creatures to block the attack

Ya, my bad, it is limited to combat damage ._.

The combo is still amazing for just dealing 40 to your opponent. Another thing you could do is mind over matter with Kozilek for infinite draw and damage.

Good point! Thanks DedWards for the original thought, and for TrackingDevice for letting me think it through again. Curiosity and Mind Over Matter have been added! Also infinite loops of course are solid ha

You can switch ``Spellbook`` for a ``Thought Vessel``

``Ponder`` for a ``Preordain``but ponder good to !

Having both Ponder and Preordain never hurts. I would remove Serum Visions for Preordain.

If you can get your hands on any of the Eldrazi Titans from Rise of the Eldrazi set, get one into the deck. You can discard it to Mind over Matter to shuffle the 'yard back into your deck, basically reloading your deck-drawing machine gun.
Happy Combos !

I have a Niv-Mizzet deck posted on here as well. It plays quite differently, but I've been able to trigger infinite combos as early as turn 7

With the amount of draw, an Elixir of Immortality would be nice, then you can reuse your whole library.

Is this a budget version of the deck? I need to post my decklist up for Niv-Mizzet. He's a really fun commander but anyone at the table who knows what he's capable of will target you first sadly.

Ha I didn't plan for it to be budget. I guess if you take out Ancestral Vision, Jace Vryn's Prodigy, Consecrated Sphinx, Jace Mind-Sculptor, and maybe another, it could be. As far as targeting goes, just destroy their creatures back instead of hitting their life. The nice thing about the deck is once there's enough mana, it becomes exponential. Hitting life directly, therefore, doesn't have to be the only objective. Perhaps with fewer creatures, the other players may wish to take out that opponent too

I only run 11 creatures in my Niv deck and I have a bunch of infinite combos in it as well. I'll post a link once I get mine up also. I feel like with 5 artifacts the deck is too slow. You don't have Sol Ring, Thran Dynamo, or any of the other decent mana gems. Also why not throw in Omniscience? It's one of the best cards around for this deck.

I added artifacts as you suggested. I was just being ignorant. I personally will pass on Omniscience, because, although it's a guaranteed win-con, it simply costs too much for me

Your land base seems a little low but I've not been playing commander for longenough to really tell if a deck with this much draw power needs it.

Idk I run 36+ in all my decks.

You're guaranteed a minimum of two drawings of cards each turn, so if a third can be drawn, probability goes that it will be a land. If you can only draw two cards in a turn, probability has it that on the next turn a land will be drawn. I wrote out the deck, and it works itself out. Basically there is a 1 in 3 chance of getting a land throughout the deck

Try so e of the monarch cards from conspiracy ram the crown. Being the monarch gives you one extra card draw per turn until you're dealt combat damage
