Pretty simple, keying off the rules, +1/+1 counters offset persist counters. So +1/+1 counter plus a -1/-1 counter means no counters. Using Metallic Mimic or First Day of Class, when you sacrifice a creature to Skirk or Phyrexian Altar the creature can be sacrificed infinitely. This provided infinite mana or damage depending on which persist goblin is sacrificed. Crown, Tutor, Boggart, and Matron are utility to find the pieces of the combo. Pashalik is also utility damange to key off sacrificed goblins.
