A long, long time ago, DedWards posted this awesome deck:http://www.mtgvault.com/dedwards/decks/strong-hold-on-discipline/It was quite the breath of fresh air when front page was filled with netdecks and trolls otherwise. I liked it so much, I messed around with my own variations. We chatted back and forth a bit, and ultimately I decided most of my variations weren't right; his was as distilled as it gets, even though there were some clever combos that could be played off his core deck.Yada yada, I stopped playing for a while, came back recently, and just saw Akroan Horse in the local comic shop. I picked up a set immediately, thinking way back to that glorious deck of his. If you look at the two, you'll see the trojan beast has no place in his deck, but it got me thinking about how to put the stranglehold on Discipline again. I thought this card might have some unique place to take that concept and change it into something similar but different. Well, it did. It did so much, it turned it completely around. What started out as an attempt at a Stronghold variant wound up dropping Stronghold altogether. While this deck is, by this point, an original creation, I thought it worth while to tell a tale and pay tribute to its conceptual progenitor. By this point it's become more turbo-fog than it has Ded's Disciplinarian, but by practice it still plays more-similarly to Ded's deck than it does turbo-fog. Ergo, the namesake.
You won't take many of my original creations into a competitive environment and walk away feeling like you've made an impact (though some may surprise you); most of my decks are quirky and fun, and this one is no exception. This isn't so straight forward to write a "how to pilot" about it. It's a little bit of Ded's Strong hold on Disciplin, a little bit of turbo-fog, and a little bit different. Your prerogative is to find the best way to give and take such that your mates' die faster than you.I don't know how else to describe the experience besides: It's fun, and it's cheap.
