The owner of this deck hasn't added a sideboard, they probably should...

Deck Description

Sort of inspired by the front page "Cheap, turn 3 win" found here:
http://www.mtgvault.com/csmith1989-2/decks/cheap-turn-3-win-24-player/

The core of the deck has been ready to go for a while, but lacked any inspiration to fill in the last ~10 cards. Borrowing the Whiteclay/Children skewed some of the core list around a little bit to make it what it is now.

Built for casual multiplayer, so there's nothing really to abuse the aforementioned combo, it's just a contingency that sort-of-taxes opponents for attacking me.

Deck discussion for Children of Athreos

Nice! Springleaf drum + Paradise Mantle + Order of Whiteclay = 1 mana to return creatures from the dead!

Replace Phyrexian Area with rest for the weary. It will make the deck Modern legal and way more powerful.

Please upvote my friend KJSJ's comment on this deck. It reads "Boom! Boom! Fiya Power." Some nut downvoted it! I can't let that stand!

I went with Phyrexian Arena because it's the only cost free, permanent life loss / card draw I have. I was considering Maralen, the Mornsong though. Giving everybody a forced life-cost tutor every turn could make multiplayer games pretty interesting :D

Also, upvoted ;)

Have you thought about Blood Artist over Souls of the Faultless? Looks like a fun deck.

I was looking at Blood Artist early on, but went with Souls because of how well it works with Vizkopa Guildmage. Testing may change my mind, however; I've never liked that three mana symbol casting cost.

Kinda expensive and super dumb but
Sanguine Bond + exquisite blood = game for them
Its a loop

Lol, nice loop.

I'm intentionally avoiding combos like that because they're cheesy for a casual multiplayer format. We mostly play five star (minus color rules) or two headed giant, and the power struggle is what makes games fun, not "did you have a counter to that? k, gg!" Still a powerful combo, but the above is why I went with Vizkopa over Sanguine Bond.

Good point. That's why I don't add OP to most of my decks ... only tournament play deserves cards like Planeswalkers, especially if your opponent has no response to it.

He's a strong consideration, but I already need to talk my wife into letting me pick up two Athreos (I haven't bought packs since NPH..). I'm trying to keep the budget down, but if I ever get an Erebos he's replacing one of my Arena's for sure. Possibly Maralen the Mornsong to replace the other, even though they're sort of anti-synergy.

That's a good policy. Maybe your wife and you can compromise. By which I mean you won't buy any more cards ;).

No joke... I spend like $8 for desecration demon and now he is a $3 card FML!

I'm self employed and don't always get to pay myself, so $5 for a card seems expensive to me (I'd rather spend on drink and food ^-^) but I picked up two at $14 a pop. I can't see his price dropping in the long run, but I probably could have waited to find a better deal. Oh well :D

I still need to order Whiteclay offline if I'm going to build this deck proper, though I'm actually brewing up something else atm, which might steal my Athreos away from this deck >.> I'll post a link if the dry runs turn out well.

Toxic, I think your subconscious is trying to tell you something!

Personally, I can't even bring myself to buy a budget deck. My current deck is the abominable offspring of a m14 starter, a pack, and a POS boros deck my friend gave me.

@Hokey: How much is your limit, in-re: buying budget decks? I just cloned the "Creepy Crawly" deck I designed for my wife, and took out a few of the more "expensive" cards I own; the price tag is down to just $8, and it's still just as powerful of a starter deck as the version I built for her. That's cheaper than an intro deck ;)
