Smothering Abomination is a house, and it can always sacrifice itself if you fear you're going to run out of steam too soon. He really wants a few more Eldrazi Scions, though, and a splash of green for some combination of Blister Pods, Catacomb Sifters, and From Beyond net some massive value. Also Hangar Backs in place of Deathbridge Shaman. Dies immediately with Rally, but hey, that's a free Cuthroat trigger, and he can really fuel your Smothering Abomination as well.

This is kind of neat. I'd personally aim for more of a toolbox of creature effects, but I don't know what's available in 1-drops off the top of my head. Deathrite Shaman is an obvious pick, but there are many other easily obtainable 1-drop powerhouses, like Skarrgan Pit-Skulk or Llanowar Augur.A few criticisms. I'd drop Warlord and Nighthowler; they force a higher curve, and without them you could easily get away with 16-18 lands. Warlord himself is a terrible anti-synergy with Dreadnought. What will you be quickly repopulating the board with after a 'nought hits the field? Top-decks?. I could see maybe keeping Nighthowler, but it just really bothers me that you're curving out at 4 with only 21 lands, 3-5 of which are totally unnecessary otherwise.Warlord and Nighthowler could be replaced with a combination of Wreath of Geists, Rancors, and Skarrgan Pit-Skulks, or some of the 1-drop hexproofs. I understand you're running creatures only, but this combination of cards is just ridiculously good and flattens the curve. Also, if you're running /the/ lands, why not toss in some fetches? Statistically, they do virtually nothing to thin your deck of lands and help with top-decks (what people typically rave about) but instead, just being able to shuffle and/or fix your colors-available turn 1 or 2 are what make them so good. Finally, I recommend you take a look at legacy Soulstomp to get some ideas how you can pack in a ridiculous amount of synergy and your mana curve can be a work of art :)Anywho, cheers! I dig it ^-^
-2 Sleeper Agents, -1 Contaminated Bond, +3 Mercy Killing?I approve of mainboarding Mercy Killing, but I miss Sleeper Agent :3 He was such a fun dilemma to throw at your opponent.
Plaxcaster Frogling is an interesting choice in that it is transmutable with Drift of Phantasm. Vines of Vastwood is another instant speed option as well as solid pump in its own right. Then there's always Asceticism, which is tutorable if you go for a more aura-focused build (i.e., Distortion Strike -> Aqueous Form, Mutagenic -> Rancor, etc.,)
The absence of the forums is really surprising to me. Creating community was always part of Ian and Gary's goal with this site, and there is not much community without forums!I saw one SWN's decks right after I posted this ^-^ I finally started buying some of the more expensive singles I've been pining over for years... Got my two Urborg's and finished my set of Thoughtseize, anyways. I'm looking forward to picking through his decks and finding some inspiration to begin building my MBC shell (and right now I am really really into Waste Not--I dig your Loam deck with that!)Glad to hear WNB is still around. Mayvbe SWN will know more about Wumps--nobody does stompy like Wumpus does stompy, and he's the reason I got into Soulstomp. At any rate, I'll be around, and hopefully more active :) ..and maybe go through and clean out my decklist a bit..
I think you might be right about that, but I only have one spare Sword of Feast and Famine. I can't have just one caw blade and 51 sad/jealous crows raining on everybody's parade.
I really like this.I'd recommend running Burning Inquiry over Magmatic Insight. It's cheap, and makes a huge impact with Waste Not on the field. You get three triggers off the opponent while digging for your pieces at the exact same time (or even better, dredge 3 and draw 2 ^-^).Also, if this isn't specifically for Modern, a single Glacial Chasm is really crazy good. I run one with my Crucible, but Loam works just the same.
Howdy fellow lurker.
Also, I run out of cards before I can cast Force of Will. This card sucks; why is it $107?
Hey, DedWards, I am just getting back into Magic, and you seem to know what you are doing. Would you mind checking out my deck?http://www.mtgvault.com/savajcabbaj/decks/chatting-with-dedwards/It just doesn't work.. I think maybe I don't remember how to tap lands :(
But thanks for making my shitty deck look more important ;D
I'm sorry your phone is stupid :3
Ahahah. Okay. Once I source out some Splinters they're going in for sure! That's going to upset people something fierce in casual multiplayer, but sometimes it's nice to just be a nuisance ;)
These are my aura decks, which, except for the cost of one, fit your challenge.Tax and Annex (100% creatureless)http://www.mtgvault.com/savajcabbaj/decks/tax-and-annex-2/Blood Money (not budget)http://www.mtgvault.com/savagethecabbage/decks/blood-money/That one isn't budget but it'd be easy to reduce the price by running the gold border Rishadan Ports, playing cheaper lands otherwise, and perhaps dropping 1-2 Bloodghast.Pauper Blood Moneyhttp://www.mtgvault.com/savagethecabbage/decks/pauper-blood-money/And that one is the all commons version of the previous deck, which /is/ within budget.Auranihilationhttp://www.mtgvault.com/savajcabbaj/decks/aurannihilation/WUG aura control for multiplayer.
Hey, Jessie, link your Slytherin deck please. My wife runs a Gringotts deck that's pretty sweet.
AHAH! It just occurred to me, that my wife's Cat tribal totally fits the bill!http://www.mtgvault.com/savajcabbaj/decks/kitty-cats-for-wife/For a $25 deck it's actually a right pain to face.
Starfish Tribal!http://www.mtgvault.com/savajcabbaj/decks/spineless-courage/It doesn't fit the challenge because there are only two starfish creature types ever printed. Everything else is a "spineless" tribe though, barring the Razorfin Hunter (replacing Stinging Barrier, which was "spineless," due to /needing/ a stable and reliable pinger) and Purphoros (because he's only ever an enchantment).I'm also brainstorming ideas for an "advocate tribal" but again, advocate isn't a creature type but a name-word shared by a cycle of white creatures. Perhaps, tomorrow, I'll sit down and approach this challenge with a deck following the rules proper ^-^ Until then, I hope at least one person appreciates my cheaty contribution :D
In re: Pyromancer's Ascension: Just note that Pyro gets a counter when you cast a spell. AFAIK, you do not cast copies (see also: the ability Storm) unless it explicitly states that you create a copy and then cast it. The only card I know of that does that is Isochron Scepter. Since Chandra is just adding a copy to the stack, you're not casting it, and Pyro does not get two quest counters. If that was important to your idea, anyways ^-^I thought of one other recommendation: Unless Pillar of Flame's exile effect is significant to your main-board, look into Forked Bolt. Or maybe replace Ball Lightning if you have a difficult time getting to three mana. In my experience, burn and exile or cannot regenerate are sideboard material unless the card is already just that good; in this case Forked Bolt is a shock (just like pillar) that can drop two mana dorks, two tokens, creature and player, etc, and has much greater impact on the main-board given the versatility.Curious to hear your opinion there ^-^
Rather standard affair spell-wise, but I do like what you are doing creature-wise ^-^ I'm not typically a fan of burn, and I lost the decklist for the one burn deck I built (on Cockatrice) and liked, using Chandra the Firebrand, Koth, Shrine of Burning Rage, and Tezzeret's Gambit / Volt Charge / Browbeat with Chandra's -2. That deck was fun, cheap, and actually managed to compete fairly well early on in Modern, taking out Jund and that stupid Emrakul deck more than 50% of the time.My only suggestion is to drop the miracle card for Brimstone Volley. Personal preference only; I don't like running even a single miracle card on the off chance I open the game with it in hand. Brimstone is especially nice with Ball Lightning and Vexing Devil ^-^
Ah, I'm sorry. I guess I can be a bit of a purist at times, despite knowing only a fraction of the lingo myself :)A "pure" burn deck doesn't run creatures. A burn "flavored" deck can. In the latter, it is my humbled opinion that Slumbering Dragon is a better deal because it fills a significant gap that burn flavored decks typically lack. But maybe then the deck won't be so burn flavored anymore? I dunno. That said, I do not disagree with you, and my initial comment was not entirely me being a purist about terminology. That little Devil packs a hell of a punch and your suggestion is certainly putting him to good use! I was more-so saying that it'd be insanely more effective with some form of graveyard recursion. He packs enough punch that I'd consider splashing red into dredge, or splash red into a WU aggro control with Sun Titan or WB aggro control with Athreos. In either case, his potential is not being lived up to in this deck, and he's stalling early game mana usage that might rather be used with more versatility with instant speed decisions. He's just an expensive ($$) sorcery speed lightning bolt +1, which shouldn't be dismissed so easily, just it seems he's begging to be so much more (in another deck).
