Standard werewolves.... Last Update - 8/25/2012 I ran an improved version of this list a few weeks back (I was attempting to make it faster). I recall going 4-2 at FNM that week, but been too long to put much more detail about the matchups. Anyway, I'm updating this list to reflect what I ran then. 3-2 total in FNM swiss on 3/30/12 2-0 vs BG Undying homebrew Seemed like a decent idea, but it wasnt tuned very well. A little slow, unstable mana base, and apparent lack of removal kept him from really competing. 2-0 vs BW Tokens - Bloodline keepers Could have been a much tougher match as I'm pretty sure he hard the cards to beat me on the second game. He was young player playing solid deck - built by dad I assume. 2-1 vs BW Tokens Heavy white version. I won the match on the final play with a moonmist as he tried an "all in" swing for 16. I returned with Kruin Outlaw + Immerwolf + Instigator Gang + Full Moon's Rise. As soon as he realized that left me with a flipped Kruin + Instigator Gang and I was returning the favor for 20 +, he sccoped and walked off. Very nice, I must say !! Especially as he and the dude that was also playing BW tokens next to us were talking crap on werewolves. GTFO!! I was holding the Moonmist for at least 4 turns, looking for just the right time !! 0-2 vs UW Venser control I was a little too slow, not getting good draws, and had no useful sideboard vs this type of control (manabarbs maybe?). I milled both times, first game to 6, second to 5. Once he stabalized, I couldn't get through the defenses. Second game I had him down to 3. But, timely reinforcements followed by an and elsh norn ended the match. 0-2 vs BR + Artifact board sweeper This deck was running a load of sweepers MB. BSZ, Whipflare, Slagstorm, Ratchet Bomb, etc. First game I saw 3 BSZ. Second game, I saw 1 BSZ and 2 Whipflares. The first game I had him to < 10, while he tried to stabalize with the BSZ. Hop top decked a mountain and followed up with 2 Kuldoth Phoenix which I had no answers for. The second game I had him down to 4 and after I killed his only pheonix and setup for the winning swing - he top decked a Red Sun Zenith and killed me. I am very happy with the werewolves. Like the title, once they flip - they are very nasty. **** A flipped Kruin Outlaw + Instigator Gang is absolutely brutal. ****

This started at 60, then right before the FNM - I bought 2 Garruk Relentless but neglected to take anything out... Ooops! So, I'd like to get back to 60. I found myself sideboardig out lead the stampede and beast within. So, maybe we could drop the stampede... Also, I really liked having Kruin on the board. When he flips, it makes it much easier to get through. Probably want to at +1 Kruin here too. Any other comments or suggestions, just let me know!

I would sideboard Phyrexian Revoker against the ratchet bombs
Interesting. Never thought of that. I was counting on ancient grudge and naturalize. But, I'm not really clear on how the stack and priority would work there. I was thinking when they try to activate the ratchet bomb, I can respond with ancient grudge and since the stack plays backwards - ancient grudge would hit first.
Making some deck changes... I'm trying to go for a more agressive, quick kill approach. I'm also expecting to see more quick aggro decks like delver & tokens. MB =========== -2 Garruk Relentless -2 Huntmaster of the Fells -2 Lead the Stampede -2 Beast Within +2 Arc Trail +2 Hunters Insight +1 Kruin Outlaw +1 Instigator Gang SB =========== +2 Garruk Relentless +2 Beast Within -2 Afflicted Deserter -2 Whipflare -1 Sword of Feast and Famine
Ran this again tonight (4/20). Went 2-3... Not as good as last time. But, still very fun to play and moonmist again proved to be a game winner. Kruin and Instigator Gang are awesome. Add in Mayor and Immerwolf and that's a lot of +/+ !! However, I don't see werewolves ever really challenging the top 8 in big tournaments. Every time I see an elsh norn or upper-level combo and control decks like frites, pod, wolf run, u/w control - I just don't have the power to take them on. Assuming they are good players with decent draws - the only consistent chance of winning Ive found is to try and beat them quickly. Occasionally, I'll win from th SB - but the big combo decks are still a major problem.
