A few years ago I built a Skullbriar Voltron EDH deck, then my philosophy shifted from one of cutthroat to embracing the social contract. Such decks as it and my pimped-out Godo Voltron were dismantled in favor of more mid-range ramp strategies like Xenagos, God of Tokens (Warp World!) and Rakdos, Lord of EDH (Eldrazi anyone?). Although I still like my shift away from infinite combos, cheap tutoring, early insane ramp, and LD, I still sometimes miss the one-for-one interactions of typical constructed formats (albeit not the tension of the upper-tables and constant meta-game shifting). Enter Tiny Leaders. At first, I wanted to recreate Skullbriar, but then I decided Varolz should lead this time since he has some added protection in his regeneration ability. In addition, since my play group has also taken a stance to only play Modern-legal sets with supplemental originals (like Command Tower) I found the cheap reanimation that Skullbriar thrived on was beyond my grasp. After viewing both some regular and Tiny Leader EDH lists I decided to go against the standard set by the Channelfireball team and play without utilizing dredge. I like the dredge idea, but I also like just drawing more large, terrible creatures to discard to such great cards as Lotleth Troll, Oona's Prowler, and Liliana of the Veil. I also figured lines of play where I cast a Sheltering Ancient or Phyrexian Soulgorger as an entirely expendable blocker (or fodder for Korozda Guildmage, Life's Legacy, and Rite of Consumption) would be advantageous. Skullbriar still makes an appearance, and is aided late game by Profane Command, but he is now only a supporting member rather than the star.
