Deck Description

Top Deck: May, 2011

...because this Splinter is going to be deep!

Another take at a different form of land destruction. Many of you have seen this strat before, if not, here goes:

1) Liquimetal Coating or Myr Landshaper will turn a target land into an artifact;
2) Use Splinter to remove that target land, and all copies of that land from your opponent's hand, library, and graveyard, from the game.

Moral of the story, they get land screwed at one pop; at two pops, most of their land is completely removed. Smash to Smithereens, Pillage, and Creeping Mold help clean up afterwards.

Now, I'll admit that this deck is in its early stages. Considering the cost of most of the spells here is so steep (most require 2 colored mana in their cost), I've added Skyshroud Elf to help carry some weight. Acceleration has been implemented in the form of fetch and dual lands (shock and pain). The kill condition is in the form of Silvos with support from Smash to Smithereens and Lightning Bolt along the way.

The deck is susceptible to creatures, as I have little to address them since the deck is so focused on the land removal. Yes, I can use Liquimetal with Pillage, Creeping Mold, and Smash to address creatures, but that is all dependent on one another. I'll see how it plays out soon.

If you like this, or want to criticize me further, I welcome you to take a look at any of the other decks I have posted here on the site (just click on my name to see the complete deck list). Thanks!

1) sol ring is a banned card if you care
2) goblin tinkerer would be the perfect card in this deck. Tap him and one mana destroy target artifact, and it deals damage equal to its converted mana cost to him, the lands that are now artifacts have converted mana cost 0 and therefore won't kill the goblin and let you keep going

Sol Ring is restricted in Vintage and banned in Legacy. However, when I build decks, I always follow the vintage list (though, I know none of them are competitive as I only ever play casually). My "Black Hole" deck is the only deck that doesn't follow this rule, but even then, does follow that rule from how the list looked in 1995.

The Tinkerer on the other hand would be a great addition! Thanks!

Only Suggestion is ROLLING TERRAIN!!!! If you splinter all of their lands then you can Rolling Terrain any that are left in play and hurt them really bad. Also add in the myr that produce red and green mana to speed things up.

Also try Rite of Flame over Desperate Ritual. I personally like it more.

It's all about creativity. But trust me, the look on the face is priceless. The only downside is that it puts a tremendous bullseye on you and your Coatings after one pop. I've learned how to make myself a target and love having to be addressed early, makes for a fun challenge.

Glad you like it.

Silvos is my kill condition as the game progresses. With trample his damage gets through quite heavily regardless if blocked while hie regeneration keep him around through most removal. With the land lock I can create with the Splinter combo, time really isn't an issue.

Thanks!

Problems with creatures?

Kazuul, Tyrant of the Cliffs can keep your opponent's from doing a whole lot when attacking so long as he lives.. or why not just try Crawlspace?

You should add Orcish Lumberjack 4x http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=184656 and Crucible of Worlds http://gatherer.wizards.com/Pages/Card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=129480. Depends on how many Forests you play though.

Bucket, this deck rocks man. I built one based on it, but I gave credit to you, didn't wanna steal your thunder. Check my take out, i am going to build it later this month, and it is hopefully a little faster for the MP games we always have. Good work man!

what do you think of adding sowing salt? Does the same thing but quicker.

0

Sowing Salt does pretty much the same thing, but it's for non-basic lands of which will generally only grab 2-4. Considering this, I didn't put too much investment into it as I can do the same thing with Splinter, but am typically looking to remove all their basic land. The hit the opponent takes to losing that much basic land is much more catastrophic than losing 2-4 non-basics, especially early on.

you could remove lightning bolt and run fog instead

I actually thought about that. But would run Moment's Peace instead of Fog for the flashback.

I agree with you there that the look on someone's face after splinter is amazing. My version focuses more on the artifact aspect than the land, but I really like oxidize just because it only costs one mana to blow up one of their lands. Another creature I like is caustic wasp though its ability can obviously be stopped by flyers or reach.

Guys: Turn all of their lands into artifacts with Mycosynth lattice. Then run loose with splinter and any other artifact destruction. Over time, it will be more useful.

i built a similar deck, i would recommend ancient stirrings to help make sure you get liquimetal coating, also more cheap destroy artifact cards deconstruct is fun because it gives you back 3 mana (although all green)
