Deck Description

Top Deck: June, 2012

Built for casual play as Necropotence is restricted.

NOTE: While other cards in the deck are also restricted, as a personal limitation, I follow the B/R list as it stood in 1995 with this deck (Necro was not on it, but Demonic Tutor was); any card that was not printed at the time follows the current B/R list.

Basic MBC (Geth's Verdict, Damnation, and Disk (or "The Button" as I call it) to dismiss threats; Hymn and Duress to monitor hand strength; Exsanguinate as primary kill condition and replenishment to fuel Necropotence; Obliterator to implement a clock and alternate kill condition; search via Demonic and Vampiric Tutors. Extraplanar adds utility and fuel for Exsanguinates (using Snow-Covereds as to not benefit opponents).

Sideboard offers a philosophy change against creature-light decks and potential burn. LD can be swapped in for Verdicts or hand control depending on the situation/opponent.

If you like this build, or would like to criticize me further, please take a look at some of the other builds I have posted on the site. Thanks!

Deck discussion for Black Hole v3 (Exp./Not Legal)

I like this, i can see why necropotence is banned in almost everything, such a great card. Phyrexian is a pretty great card too, u should check out a deck i made based around him.

Thanks for the advice on my deck! It was very helpful!

I'm just wondering why you aren't playing more than 1 of each Tutor. That's all

I try to follow the banned/restricted list as closely as I can. The only deck where I break that rule is with this one and the multiple inclusions of Necropotence. When I first started playing Necro was NOT restricted but Demonic Tutor was, so when it comes to Necro decks, I follow that rule. Consider this as Type 1 legal before the Black Summer.

I like it a lot pal, it`s a shame that Necropotence is banned, it rules the metagame of that gold era of this game. I think you could put good use of Surgical Extraction in this deck, but is great anyway.

I like the build and I practically breathe MBC on the norm.
Something I always enjoyed using with Necropotence was Ivory Tower with Library of Leng/Spellbook/Reliquary Tower.
Duress is a good card, but Thoughtseize is a lot better. Although I can understand the need to not over spend your life since you are running a Necro engined deck.
I recommend looking into Reliquary Tower since you are running Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth in the deck and Add yourself a Ivory tower too. With the two tutors, and Necropotence, pulling off the combo shouldn't be too hard.
This looks like a fun deck to play and not too much fun to play against. Nice build man!
Thanks for the comment and kind words on my Necrotic Douche deck!

I really like it. I was thinking you could definatly do some work with some of the less popular awesome black cards. You should really look into temporal extortion. Thoughtseize is good in any deck that csn produce black mana. Other than that very nice.

Yeah, I love Thoughtseize! The downside is that it is very easy to over spend life with a Necro deck, especially how i have this one built. Play testing is allowing me to strongly consider adding it in, but I need little more testing, with only 4 Consumes, sometimes I run little lower than i did in previous builds. Still, it might be finding its way in soon.

I would throw in Sorin's Vengeance for the win. It becomes deadly a lot faster than Exsanguinate, although Exsanguinate is much better for multiplayer.

Just say the combo; I'm an idiot. I really like what you've done with the Snow-Covered Swamps!

cool so you just commented on my MBC deck and suggested i check this out, and ya its pretty cool i like your use of the lense with the snow covered swamps as to not benefit opponents

i would strongly consider the use of top and fetchlands, you divine the top 3 cards of your librairy and if you dont like any of them you snap a fetchland to shuffle your librairy and divine the new top 3, it almost creates a kind of scry top

also once you can afford it purely replace duress with thoughtseize

oh also since you have so many tutors and necropotence i strongly suggest you go for the dark depths + vampire hexmage combo

i would take out Nevinyrral's Disk. if you have Necropotence out Nevinyrral's Disk will destroy it. pluse you have Damnation. which should keep the person your playing under control. but i have never seen a deck like this before. so i may be missing a big point to that card.

I'll have to agree with gijoehawk. There are mass removals that don't involve enchantments, and you're already at risk without "The Button", let alone with it. Ratchet Bomb/Powder Keg could work, maybe - even if I actually wouldn't bet my life on it.

Other than that, I really have no clue on how to improve your deck further. It's too much fun, and very good indeed. Congratulations.

I understand the drive to remove the Disk from the build. However, i must concede that there have been a couple of instances where i need to remove Necropotence itself. For that reason alone, i need to keep it as an option. Ill usually have another Necropotence ready to go if i need to pop it.

The disk also provides artifact hate, which others will do, as well. But the best tool the Disk brings is the mental game/trick that it plays on opponents. It forces them to try to deal with it before continuing their strat, which in turn, seals their fate.

You're using old versions of things- why? The newer Disk is a lot cheaper, as is Duress. Just a way to help you spend less.
