Deck Description

So the mission was to make a PLAYABLE snake deck (not an easy task). This deck has been through several iterrations and finally settled on more of a control based version. Crystal shard allows me to bring Mystic snake and Coiling oracle back to my hand, as well as giving me the option to bring their creature back to their hand if they fully tap out.
Ramp is based around sac lands and the like to abuse Lotus cobra.

Thanks. I own several snakes so this deck was something of a labour of love for me.

Could be fun. Consider Adaptive Automaton.

I actually have two of these that were in this deck at one time or another. I didn't think that they did enough other than grant their +1 ability though. Between having either Seshiro out, or having some counters on Door of destinies the snakes should become large enough without the need for the automatons.

you should add two more Ohran Viper

Not a bad suggestion, but what would you drop? As I wanted to keep it to 60 cards!

snake umbra and harrow seem out of place here. they don't match the them except snake umbra name. a snake inside of a snake? weird. lol. and switch door of d to coat of arms. cheaper and doesn't require additional creature spells to be efficient. it'll buff your pythons the moments it bounces that ass on the dance floor.

I actually used to run this with coat of arms, but the coat has two issues: Firstly, I play against a fair few tribe based decks, so coat actually often helps them more than it helps me :/, secondly, the door can actually mean that even if I don't have many snakes on the board (if they've been wrathed etc), then when I get some snakes out later, they will still be big the moment they hit play!

As for the snake Umbra, well firstly it's snake based lol, and secondly it gives me a way to further protect Seshiro from getting doom-bladed. Also, if I can get it attached to Ohran Viper, who already draws a card if he deals damage, he gets double the advantage (or they put something in the way and it always dies to his deathtouch but not deathtouch ability).

Oh and lastly, Harrow is there purely to ramp and take advantage of Lotus Cobra's mana abilities, as without it this deck wouldn't be nearly as fast. This would be fine in a multiplayer format, but duelling I find that the extra speed makes quite a difference.

than instead add 2 nature's lore and 2 sky shroud claim. you'll find those much more powerful i assure you. i do like the card draw on the umbra though.

and ok, if you seem to hit mirror matches (aka tribal for you) than yes the door is good. and if you seem to be bombed a lot from control than the umbra and door MUST stay. I just assumed since it was modern you wouldn't be paired off with tribal and midrange control as often since modern is like 98% aggro beatdown and 2% combo, lol.

How about Sakura-Tribe Eldar? I did run him in a previous version of this as he fits the theme better, he just doesn't abuse Lotus cobra as much as Harrow, but then he can still be used as a creature if I choose not to sac him later game. Hmm.

a couple different snakes you may wanna try are ambush viper, lorescale coatl, and wasteland viper. I don't really know if they go with your theme or if they'll help but i'd really consider the lorescale coatl he gets a +1/+1 counter when ever you draw and you draw every turn.

Thanks. I have a another deck with Lorescale coatl in it, hence his non inclusion here (http://www.mtgvault.com/ruskiodoe/decks/card-drawing-engine/). Check it out and let me know what you think. Lorescale gets MASSIVE in this deck lol.

I like a dash of old school River Boa in a snake deck

River boa would definitely make the side board, as against a blue deck he definitely comes into his own. The issue with him in other circumstances is that he is up against Lotus Cobra for 2 cmc, and Lotus Cobra makes this deck so much faster out of the block he can't be dropped.
