Deck Description

This deck employs pure suicide aggro mechanics: fast, powerful creatures to overwhelm your opponent. Embrace your life loss and use it to your advantage through Death's Shadow.

Use Diabolic Intent/Pain's Reward to tutor up Phyrexian Unlife to keep you alive long enough to put the opponent away.

Emerge Unscathed helps counteract removal and also works for the unblockable hit.

Important rulings note about Flesh Reaver: Flesh Reaver will deal its damage first before it does damage to you. So if you and your opponent are both sitting at 4 life and you attack with Flesh Reaver, your opponent will take the 4 damage first and lose the game before Flesh Reaver's ability is trigged and kills you.

This is purely a casual Timmy flavor deck. There are better options out there, but I love the art and flavor of these cards, so I'm using them. I love Carnophage and Sangrophage. Phyrexian Unlife is probably Top 10 in terms of art.

Deck discussion for Lifeline

I'm looking for suggestions of other cards that have similar effects to Phyrexian Unlife (keeping me alive past 20 damage). It has to be Black or White, and be splashable.

Platinum Angel.

Great suggestion, thanks. I worry about ease-of-removal for Platinum Angel, though. Are there any other enchantments with a similar effect?

I really like decks like this. Creatures come out so fast, and you usually end up killing the opponent before the life loss cripples you. Diregraf Ghoul is such a beast, and especially in a deck like this, it works so well.

I like the budget, too!

Agreed. Most times, I have 4 creatures out by turn 3. Board wipe is a glaring weakness. Ghostway could be a counter to that.

Ghostway is a great sideboard choice for sure. Not really sure if Emerge Unscathed is worth it maindeck. Yeah, it might keep your dudes on the board a bit longer...but maybe something like Duress or Inquisition of Kozilek may help you more? Cards like that are one of black's benefits, after all. Seems like you're not taking full advantage of playing black.

Yeah, I'm not entirely sure about Emerge Unscathed either. I love cheap rebound cards, though. Hard to resist. I feel like if I were going to run Duress or Inquisition, 4-of is not really enough. I would need to fit in at least 8 of them in order to get an adequate flow of disruption instead of just a 1-off random cast in a game. I don't know what I would take out to fit them in?

Well, you could probably cut Death's Shadow. I mean, it's a cool card and all and fits the mold of your deck, but I just think that a black deck without disruption is a crime. Death's Shadow is kind of overkill here.

Actually...check that. You have really low lands right now as it is. I might even take out 1 Emerge Unscathed for a another Swamp.

i love when you don't have to worry about your creatures. So many creatures become instant removal magnets and if they get bolted or throated then it screws up your strategy. in this deck its great cuz if one of your dudes gets bolted you have 3 more coming the next turn. just all out blitz of killing. love it.

It's true. It's actually one of the my main motivations for making a deck like this. It makes it really easy and fun to play, instead of stressful. I don't have to worry about my creatures in this deck because they are meant to destroy or die trying.

I love pulling this deck out after one of my more cerebral decks. It's mindless in the fact that I don't have to think much. Just cast the creatures and swing.

Vampiric tutor really fits this deck well. Get whatever card you want sooner than you would have, and you lose a couple of life for it but hey, why not grab a death's shadow and boost him by losing life? Win win.

I would definitely agree with you, but my play group follows WotC's banned lists and Vampiric Tutor is currently banned in Legacy.

Oh good for you guys. My buddies and I play casual, no cards barred :p My bro has a deck that can spit out blightsteel or darksteel turn 2-3 every time using tinker & other assortments of cards like such.. Its such a pain to deal with.

LOL, that's pretty much exactly why we follow the banned list. Save the turn-2 kills for FNM. Kitchen table games are to kick back, have a few beers, and have a good time. Not to lock out your opponent or pull off a turn-2 kill. Makes it a chore to play, ya know?

That's why I keep a low budget for my casual decks. I put the money into the tournament decks, and I do not bring those out for casual sessions. It just is not fun for my play group who just play for fun.

Great job. Phyrexian Unlife is great here. It basically allows you to continue suiciding but gives you 10 extra life, untouchable by your own creatures (besides Flesh Reaver). +1

Thanks dude, it's a really fun deck to play even when you lose. There's been games where I try to tutor for a card with Spoils of the Vault and end up killing myself because the card never comes up. But even then, it's fun because my opponent and I have a good laugh about it.

Other times Spoils leaves me with 1 life and then I pull out a 12/12 Death's Shadow on turn 2 and end up winning the game. Games like that, where you essentially start the game with 1 life, are exciting.

It's instances like that that make suicide such a fun archetype to play.
