Deck Description

Alright! 16 decks and still going, these are all decks that I'm holding, (except for Crank dat' Mana and Paradox deck)

Fungus! It's the first attempt to get to the plant-ish side of nature before the dryad attempt, which had a more desired effect.

For the first few turns, this deck will seem pretty harmless, but that's the way they are! Cute and harmless! Till you send down Sporesower Thallid, Thelon of Havenwood or Mycoloth, then it's business...

How to Play

Creature based deck. Can play as Aggro and creature-control at the same time. A little toward combo too.

Fungus offers great flexibility, which is what I like about this deck, it stands for an aspect of nature that is very important, In order to Survive, you have to Adapt.

Before I go on with the creatures, I'll break it down for you about the things they do.

They each have 3 parts to their abilities (except Sporoloth Ancient, Mycoloth and Sporesower)

- 1st. Put a SPORE Counter on this creature during your upkeep. (it's standard throughout the fungus creature type)

- 2nd. Remove THREE Spore counters, put a 1/1 saproling on the field.

- 3rd. Sacrifice a Saproling (And pay a certain mana cost): INSERT EFFECT

Thus, I'll go through only the 3rd part of their abilities under the introductions. If you skipped this portion, you would not understand if you're new to fungus, and you'll have to come back here for a little basics. ENJOY!

CREATURES

Utopia Mycon - Easy 1 drop. Cute little 0/2, By sacrificing a saproling, you can produce a mana of any colour of your choice. This opens up to options for sunburst, Cascade and such, but those aren't the elements for this deck.

Thallid Shell-Dweller - I nicknamed it 'Snail' because it looks like a bunch of tentacle fungus devouring a snail and calling the shell home. 2 drop, 0/5 defender, it doesn't really give any sacrifice-for-effect option but it's a good friend of Overgrown Battlement.

Psychotrope Thallid - I nicknamed it 'Psycho' since the name is too tedious to pronounce. 3 drop, 1/1, it trades in one sacrifice and 1 colourless mana for a draw, pretty useful during mid-game if you're desperately looking for card advantage.

Sporesower Thallid - I nicknamed it 'Curry Puff' because of its appearance, google up Curry Puff for some laughs (It can be referred as dumplings, if you like dumplings). This fellow doesn't sacrifice the little guys. But it is a major boost to the fungus community. 4 drop for a 4/4, during your upkeep, put a SPORE Counter on each fungus you control, basically it is there to double up your SPORE Counter growth per turn, very reliable.

Sporoloth Ancient - I can't nickname this guy. 5 Drop for a 4/4. No Sacrificing ability either, but it cuts down the cost of all fungus creature's "Remove 3 counters = 1 Saproling Token" TO... "Remove 2 counters = 1 Saproling Token". Just have one of it on the field with another Sporesower and it's a constant flow of tokens per Fungus each turn.

Deathspore Thallid - I nicknamed it 'Dead Mushroom' since it's the only Zombie Fungus there is out there, and it's the only Black mana fungus too. 2 drop for a 1/1. It sacrifices a saproling to have Target creature get -1/-1 until end of turn. It's a good way of playing removals without the need to get doom blade, Go for the Throat and such. Also, this ability can kill Indestructible Creature. Think about it!

Mycoloth - The Boss, that's what I call him, because when he enters the field... Haha... He dies. Nah, it's because he is so much of a threat that he'll get countered, destroyed or exiled. Lemme tell you WHY.
5 Mana for a 4/4, has Devour 2 (Devour = when enters the field, sacrifice any number of creatures, it comes in with TWO additional +1/+1 counters for each creature sacrificed).
THEN! During your upkeep, put X 1/1 Saprolings on the battlefield for each +1/+1 counters on him. You see where this is going?
I usually cast him when There is about 8 or more saprolings for Dinner, so that per turn he will populate the field with 16 tokens, and the other fungus will know how to put these abundant resources to good use.
Also, Devouring 8 creatures makes him a 20/20 for a 5 drop. WUT?

Okay, time for the non-fungus creatures.

3 of them, the Fungus-Watcher, the Mana-Ramp-er and the Saproling Artist.

Thelon of Havenwood - first ability = {B}{G}: Remove a fungus from your graveyard, put a 1/1 saproling on the field. Second ability? It's a passive, but so ironic that it cannot be called passive without faking a cough. He provides Fungus with +1/+1 for each Spore counter on them.
Picture this:

Turn 1: Forest, Utopia Mycon
Turn 2: Forest, Thelon of Havenwood (Mycon has a spore counter, so it's literally a 1 drop for 1/3 by turn 2. And 2/4 by turn 3.)

Overgrown Battlement - When Genesis Wave is in a deck, I can't play without mana ramp-ers, besides Mycon's generous killing of saprolings for mana, I need a back-up plan. This defender will work with 'Snail' for some pretty solid mana. More mana will never hurt, unless you're playing with the old rules that says mana burn.

Blood Artist - I suppose Saprolings don't bleed? Or perhaps it's sap that they bleed? Never mind that, all you have to know is Blood Artist will watch out for deaths, any creature that died, be it token or non-token, you will gain 1 life and target opponent loses one life.

Picture this.
20 saproling tokens on the field after Mycoloth's ability triggering (in fact you should have more of those by now), all you need to do is to sacrifice all of 'em saprolings using any fungus's ability that doesn't cost you mana, just spam them!
Enjoy their effects and pretty much you've won! Since your sacrificing won't cost you mana and you'll always be at priority since Split Second can't intercept your combo.

ENCHANTMENTS

Asceticism - Your fungus don't have protection from removals or other wacky annoying abilities. So Asceticism is your best bet. With Overgrown Battlement and Mycon's help, you shouldn't have issues with casting this, unless you start with 2 land and don't seem to get any for the next 4 turns. (Shit happens)

Parallel Lives - Woah woah woah, stop right here. Innistrad really had some good stuff huh? This let's you stomp on Doubling Season in the face saying 'Hah! I saved $18 by buying this enchantment that cost 1 mana lesser!'. (Of Course, Doubling Season will laugh at you because it doesn't only double tokens, it doubles counters, but WHATEVER. Budget to the people!).

SORCERIES

Caravan Vigil - Sacrificing Saprolings, don't let them die for nothing! Use one mana for a land that comes in untapped! Now, they had never died in vain...

Genesis Wave - Genesis? More like Apocalypse for the opponent. (Of course, unless shit happens, Devastation Tide, Terminus, Worldfire or AoE Destruction spells)

Tips:

Saprolings can block and be sacrificed in response to make it a legit block but no damage taken, so this should be able to prevent trample damages (Please correct me if I'm wrong though).

Deck discussion for Tonight! We Dine On Saproling!

Well, I never! This deck is darn good. Actually, scratch that! It's freaking great! I'm getting one.
One thing though; Why don't you have any Fungal Sproutings in there?
Anyway, brilliant job. Can't wait for your next deck!

Hey thanks for the support :)
This deck used to be mono green, but after some thought, black is necessary!

Fungal Sprouting, well, I'm trying to max out the potential of Genesis Wave, so that each of my cards revealed would be permanents and thus hitting the field!
So, besides Caravan Vigil, there is no other Non-Permanents in the deck. I hope that answers your question :)

Please check out my other recipes too if you'd like :)
