Current Status: WIP 3/25/2012
There have been alot influences on this build which include the Homebrew Zombie Decks by Justin Vizaro, Matt Scott's Grand Prix: Baltimore U/B Zombie deck, plus many more great decks that have been posted around the web.
Moving on, I've been wanting to play Zombies for awhile and the many deck variations out there have inspired me to put one together. So far, it's been playtesting pretty good, but it still needs some real world experience to get it ship-shape. I'll probably be editing and posting here frequently while I continue to modify it. Feel free to playtest, make suggestions or +1 if you like how it's coming along. Thanks!
------MAINBOARD------
---[[Fume Spitter]] works well to take care of [[Delver of Secrets]], [[Champion of the Parish]], [[Birds of Paradise]], [[Phantasmal Image]](illusions), plus many more. He can also help activate any of my morbid effects. Another handy use is in removing the +1/+1 undying counters that collect on my [[Geralf's Messenger]]'s.
---[[Diregraf Ghoul]] and [[Gravecrawler]] need no introduction. Both are cheap and useful. Casting these guys together is a great way to ramp up enough zombies to use [[Gravecrawler]] with [[Mortarpod]] for endless pings.
---[[Mortarpod]] is such a flexible card in this deck. Use it over and over with various zombies and chip away at your opponent with an endless stream of pings.
---[[Diregraf Captain]] is perfect for this deck. He provides a zombie buff, plus having him in play while you rattle off your [[Mortarpod]] pings, will bring your opponent down to zero pretty quick. Also, using him in the [[Mortarpod]] will give you a deathtouch ping for those extra troublesome creatures.
---[[Cemetery Reaper]] is another buff for my zombies. It also provides a way to control graveyards and pump out more zombies.
---[[Geralf's Messenger]] is a beast. Pair him up with [[Mortarpod]] for the sac. Then pull the counter off with [[Fume Spitter]] to cycle your pings of 1 then 2.
---[[Phyrexian Obliterator]] is the big boy here. He can push through alot of decks and always causes a ruckus. Get him out T4 and away you go.
---[[Tragic Slip]] works like a charm in this deck, (since I'll always be able to activate the morbid effect). Use this to take down anything including indestructible creatures, or creatures with regeneration.
---[[Brimstone Volley]] can do 5 targeted damage for 3 mana when you use the morbid effect. This has countless uses and is great to cast at your opponent to clinch the round. This also presents a way to deal with cards like [[Mirran Crusader]] which can be devastating to a black deck.
---[[Olivia Voldaren]], even though not a zombie, is a great card for this deck. Flying, plus constant pings and the ability to pull creatures from my opponent. Yes please. Even though I'm only running one right now, I think it could provide an epic topdeck that could change the momentum of a game.
---[[Phantasmal Image]] just fits. I'd probably run another if I had more than just the 1. [[Geralf's Messenger]] is a great target for him, since when he dies and the undying trigger activates, he comes back into play as a [[Phantasmal Image]] again (ready to copy) but now with a +1/+1 counter.
---[[Sword of War and Peace]] is without a doubt a fantastic card. Once again, if I had 2 I'd play them both. This card has great synergy in this deck since it pairs easily with a low cost zombie. (This works great to hit your opponent early enough in the round to maximize it's damage/lifegain effect).
------SIDEBOARD------
---[[Nihil Spellbomb]] comes into play best when your dealing with Frites, Esper Control, U/B control, or other similar decks.
---[[Shatter]] is mostly in there to deal with [[Grafdiggers Cage]] or any of the Swords.
---[[Incinerate]] and [[Red Sun's Zenith]] in case I need to ramp up the direct damage.
---[[Phyrexian Crusader]] (even though an infect creature), can prove invaluable against a WW or Haunted Humans deck.
---[[Grimgrin, Corpse-Born]] is another card that could work in various conditions. I'm not completely sold on it yet, but I do think it could provide an epic topdeck in certain circumstances. We will see!
