Deck Description

NOTE : THIS IS NOT MY DECK, ORIGINAL IDEA WAS FROM JESTERSMIND. IT IS MY TAKE ON HIS DECK "IN AND OUT THE DOGGIE DOOR". I TAKE 0% CREDIT FOR THE CREATION OF THIS DECK.

How to Play

The record for this deck vs my local playgroup is a mediocre 0 - lots of losses. The main point of the deck is to win by ping. Play animar, play ramp creatures, use control spells/counters, play enchantments/artifacts that return creatures to your hand, play creatures that deal one damage when they come into play, begin to return creatures to your hand, replay creatures at little or no cost due to animar and aluren. Wash, rinse, repeat, you should get the idea. There are other cards that create other effects but I will let whoever will look at this deck find out about all that extra stuff.

Deck discussion for animar

Please do leave a comment but remember to look at JESTERSMIND 's "Doggie Door" deck as well and maybe even leave a comment while you are there.

I am back on the webs! I am posting a couple decks today. But I updated Doggy Door again. I may be falling in love with an edh deck. still waiting on a couple cards to come in to finish it off for group play. but it's test runs have gone very well.

The biggest change has been dropping board control. no opposition or onslaught, no aluren because i won't need to cast creatures on opponent's turns and it's cost makes it a little slow for my turn. and I added some zero cost artifact creatures to get Animar going a little faster and they work with equilibrium and tidespout, just not the curio.

I like the addition of Grinning Ignus. Winding Canyons was a great addition as well for the Aluren effect. And I am going to go back and take a look to see if I can fit Manamorphose in, that's a great mana fix to help make sure Animar is out on turn two or three.

I am thinking about 86 ing the opposition myself and possibly adding rhystic study ... more draw power is good. Also I kinda want to add maelstrom wanderer, three mana for a 7/5 double cascade and creatures I control have haste ( that last part I don't really care about so much but I am just sayin). I also don't really care so much about double cascade in this deck it will prolly hit something small 2 times but at least it would potentially add counters to animar and something else random off of whatever creature comes into play.

I think Maelstrom wanderer is actually a really neat idea. even if it grabs small things it still will trigger any of the bounce permanents like curio and could potentially set of an ininite on its own. because you could just bounce him to your hand. absolutely genius idea I'm going to tinker with it.

My playgroup "friend" made a new r/g token deck that has potential, the reason I even mention that is because he played a card that could go in this deck. Check out champion of lambholt, it could work. Also all this when a creature comes into play draw a card on a stick is kinda slow. It could come out earlier that is true and it would be a big body to block/attack and I could keep drawing cards after it's out there due to small creatures coming into play over and over but I feel like I need more. That is why I am considering something like collective unconscious and even that might not net that many cards.

Champion would rock if I ever planned on attacking, he woulddefinitely be a beast, especially if he attacked and the you aluren'd in a creature into an infinite to surprise your opponent with a million damage. But the way I'm working the deck now he would just be one more card taking advantage of the infinite combo, not causing it.

I understand your feelings about the drawing a card biggies. I actually took out soul of the harvest when I put in maelstrom. I'm thinking primordial is going to come out for another visionary / wall of blossoms card. I wish sawtooth loon was RUG colors

Yeah I feel you on taking a card out, if I were to take a card out it would be the primordial first just because the soul o t harvest is better for the amount of mana you are spending. If I did take the primordial out I would definitely put the wanderer in. Sawtooth loon now that there is a good card but sad face wrong colors.

I don't know about SotH being better, he only triggers when a creature hits the battlefield. Primordial triggers before the spell resolves and even if a creature is countered. The extra P/T does not affect the deck other than a possible burn spell, and I am trying to get the spell to trigger before that would be too much of a concern.

However that is all moot since both Primordial and SotH have been eliminated and I put in a merchant of secrets and maelstrom wanderer instead. Maelstrom was an awesome addition. It doesn't always blast off, but it adds an awesome element to the deck and has the potential to completely bust the game open.

Well I will have to go back and read both again, SotH also has trample ( I actually thought they had the same text but if you are correct then I might have to give SotH the boot and keep the other). Also considering Thragtusk.

I actually gave this a chance early on. One of the players in my playgroup loves this card. I find on turn 4 (or 3 if I got some artifact mana early) I am casting creatures to get Animar pumped and make other creatures cheaper. I definitely could see it working in the deck though. I have been on the fence with it. I am going to go back to it and see how it does in testing.

what did you think about thragtusk, you didn't ever say one way or another.

To start, Thragtusk is all but banned at my group's table, not because he is too powerful, but he is just incredibly overplayed.

As far as in my version of this deck, his abilities make tokens and gain life, both of which don't really win me the game I want to. In the old version where board dominance was the goal he would rock it out.

Your thoughts on Teferi's Puzzle Box, I think the ability to cycle through the deck would be nice. It might be an annoyance thought because if you have what you need in your hand to go infinite but don't have enough mana you pass turn and when it comes back to your turn you lose the cards that are in hand. It would force me to play with some sort of arty destruct and I don't have anymore available slots in the deck to add anything else.

The Puzzle Box Is One Of My Favorite Cards, But I Am With You, I Would Rather Not Risk Losing The Cards I Have. Besides By The Time I Cast The Box, If I Am Not In A Solid Position, I Am Probably Getting Wiped Pretty Quick. Even If The Deck Is Being Played In A New Group, It Wont Take A Veteran Group To Realize What I Am Doing.

Also Updated On Phone, Sorry Again For The Formatting.
