It has been a good, long while since I was into MtG. However, recently I have heard about the "Pioneer" format and have decided to dust off some of my old cards and get back into it.This is a deck that I am thinking of playing based off a strategy that I thoroughly enjoyed while I played the Force of Will TCG, which was targeted hand destruction, and my love of the Return to Ravnica Dimir stuff, with my main win-condition being Consuming Aberration.Yes, the deck is unfinished, but that is because I can't decide on which of the following creatures to add in:- Academy Loremaster- Concealing Curtains- Curious Homunculus- Haughty Djinn- Hypnotic Sprite- Malevolent Hermit- Soaring Thought-ThiefIf you think any of these would fit the playstyle of the deck better than the others, please do let me know.
I would like to say that this is kind of a midrange or control deck in blue and black. Target some juicy priority targets in hand with Thoughtseize and Duress while using counter and kill spells to deal with everything else.Build up your opponent's graveyard, then drop the Aberration and watch them cry.

Personally i would opt for Soaring Thought-Thief with Malevolent Hermit // Benevolent Geist as sideboard replacement. Tough I'm more a pauper player, so my opinion might not be worth that much ;)Relic Golem or Vantress Gargoyle could also be worth a look. Sadly Nephalia Drownyard isn't legal for pioneer any more, this would be a good addition. Codex Shredder would be a weaker option that would allow you to mill continuously. Library manipulation could be done using The BiblioplexPersonally I would (re)move 2 [[Hero's Downfall]] into the sideboard and add Cast Down instead, and switch when playing against decks with high legendary or planeswalker count.

I wasn't really trying to focus more on the mill side of the deck, even if it does really ramp into Consuming Aberration. I'm also way to deep into other game systems, such as Warhammer 40,000 to spend heaps of money on Magic, so budget options are always worth it. That being said, Vantress Gargoyle does seem alright as a 5/4 with Flying for 2 is really strong. The reason I was considering Thought-Thief originally was more for the Flash and by the time I cast him, I should already have his +1/+0 ability active.Without knowing the Pioneer meta, Hero's Downfall was added purely as a consistent and catch-all removal card. But if legendary creatures and Planeswalkers aren't popular, then that'll be a good change! Thanks for the input though, and I'll look into grabbing Thought-Thief because he seems really good, especially if I decide to switch to a Rogue deck!
Currently the small-mill card that I'm favouring is zulaport duelist because it defends from damage twice, once when it's cast, and second when it blocks. It will also devastate the smaller creatures in aggro, and likely at a point they don't understand.I remember you as a cheerful guy, who posted rogue stuff with a serious side to it, but some people was trying to hold you down and drag you into the mud. I can state that they are the majority now.Almost all new accounts are by spammers, trying to manipulate the meta with bad decks, mostly by posting good decks with bad card choices inserted in them.I'm here, and I'm preparing for a more active presence both in here and on mtggoldfish which is also frequented by the same spammers. There's a chance that you are someone pretending to be sorinmarkov, but for now I'll give you the benefits of doubt:)4 zulaport duelist 2 rebuff the winds (or whatever it's called)Since you got removal, excavated walls or stream of thought might be worth a look.
Darkman, you can ask me anything that only Sorin would know.If it proves it to you, my favourite deck that I ever posed here was my Goat deck based off Vampires, life gain creatures like Healer of the Pride and of course, Trading Post. I still have that deck, in all its terrible and fun jank glory. The only change I'd make to the deck is swapping out all 12 Guildgates for Shocklands if they weren't so expensive.I took a break from MtG because I didn't have money, had just finished school and didn't have anyone to play with except people who had more money in single cards than my entire decks. I lost my Sorin account because that was also tied to my school email address that got deleted almost 10 years ago now. In the inbetween time, I have dived very heavily into Warhammer 40,000 and was really into the Force of Will TCG before that flopped in my area. Thanks for the suggestion of Zulaport though! One thing that I would like to try with this deck is having a lot of dual option cards, or at least dual effects. And considering, I've been looking at slightly beefier things for the midrange, I forgot about dealing with aggro. Ironically my favourite strategy too.
Heh, I could ask you many questions only sorin would know :)Except there are numerous sorinmarkov's on mtgvault.Which one of them would you be ?
I thought the Goat deck was a dead giveaway that I am the s0rinmark0v you described. The one with an actual Sorin profile picture. The genius who thought that using Illness in the Ranks in a token deck was a good idea.
Well, if you are him, at least you get the idea. They made several fake accounts trying to take over your name and essence.Me they've only made one mock account of, meaning you were a better target for some reason.(The mock account is wickedbarkman)You will discover that they spam over every talented deckpage you write, but there is a time where the team as a whole "goes to sleep" and posting after that point does make your stuff visible.Anyways most users you will encounter in here are spammers, but the tags you use make your decks searchable to the world, so you do get a minimum of your stuff to be seen, but not necessarily by magic players. One of them has a habit of using sexbased tags so horny people get searches with mtg instead, and some lash out their sexual frustrations by trolling in here for a while. My own motives for staying is that there are no magic forums not controlled by spammers like this, so I'm causing awareness of them with counter spam.Almost all of my posts contains a copypasted warning about it.
Checking out your page... I'm not only floored by the amount of decks you've constructed on here but by the quality of your descriptions and the care you've put into everything. Truly an inspiration! Keep up the good work!
Thanks, mate!I find personally that a good description actually helps people understand your decks more easily by explaining the thought process. Back when I was known as s0rinmark0v and made by anti-token token deck, I doubt many people would have understood why I included Illness in the Ranks as it is anti-synergy with Tokens, so having that in there really helped people understand the vision!
