Deck Description

Edit 11/12/2017

Deck was heavily edited. The concept is still the same as before - destroy creatures every turn with Magus of the Abyss and drain life at the same time with Blood Artist. Use various creatures that can return to battlefield from graveyard.

I also plan on relying on Recurring Nightmare to amplify the effects of Blood Artist/Massacre Wurm, but at the moment its uses are pretty limited. You could kill an already summoned wurm with the Magus, then get it back with Recurring Nightmare and trigger his -2/-2 ability once more, but that's pretty much it...

Deck discussion for Black Essence

Creatures like Bloodghast mite be better than Breeding Pit.

Blood Artist does work with token creatures as the tokens do hit the graveyard before ceasing to exist. It's because of this that I've lost a few games to Blood Artist + Day of Judgment in a token creature based deck :/

I like bloodghast more too. Edited.

Thanks!

I think you should run 2 Wurms and 4 Blood Artist, also since its mono black Mutilate would be a fantastic fit, think about that with blood artist on the field. I do like this deck a lot and with some minor tweaks really annoying. Also I would throw in 2 Sorin his -3 target play is at 10 life and with Bloodghast thats a haste 2/1.

This one is the much better deck of those Essence deck you've made. Maybe a couple of Terramorphic Expanse could do well in mid games. I'm kinda not sure if Contaminated Grounds could really go well but it really stick with the concept of the color black in MTG. Same with Gloom in your Sideboard. You could also weaken this deck a little bit just to stick with that motif and put in old loved cards like Juzam Djinn, etc. But overall, this one is scary ^^. Looking forward for the White Essence deck!!

I thought that too. I was playing this deck a couple days ago, and I was desperate because I couldn't draw a single land to resurrect the bloodghasts. Terramorphic expanse is a must.
I'm not sure about contaminated ground either, but most of the time it's useful. It is a prime weapon to negate a color to the opponent, in multi colored decks.
Juzam Djinn would be so great, but it's so expensive lol. For nostalgic value, I wanted to play Nekrataal and Ishan's Shade, but I'm having a hard time figuring what could I possibly remove.

Still working on the white one, I've got some ideas but it's harder than it looks :D
Thanks for your feedback Mash :)

Gah, I thought I did something original, but nope. Oh well, I'm glad it works at least.

Thanks for stumbling upon!
